The amaal at Masjid Kufa

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِٱللَّهِ

bismi llāhi wa bi-llāh

In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust),

وَفِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ

wa fī sabīli llāh

on the way of Allah (I proceed),

وَعَلَىٰ مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

wa ʿalā millati rasūli llāh

and the course of Allah’s Messenger,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih

peace be upon him and his Household, (I follow).

اَللَّهُمَّ انْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلاً مُبَارَكاً

allāhumma anzilnī munzalan mubārakā

O Allah, (please do) enable me to reside blessedly

وَانْتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنْزِلِينَ

wa anta khayru l-munzilīn

and You are the best of those who enable to reside.

اللَّهُ اكْبَرُ وَلاَ إِلهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ

allāhu akbaru wa lā ilāha illā llāh

Allah is the Most Great. There is no god but Allah.

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَسُبْحَانَ ٱللَّهِ

wa l-ḥamdu li-llāhi wa subḥāna llāh

All praise be to Allah. All glory be to Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

as-salāmu ʿalā sayyidinā rasūli llāh

Peace be upon our master the Messenger of Allah,

مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

muḥammadi bni ʿabdi llāh

Muhammad son of `Abdullah,

وَآلِهِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

wa ālihi ṭ-ṭāhirīn

and upon his immaculate progeny.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalā amīri l-muʾminīn

Peace be upon the Commander of the Faithful,

عَلِيِّ بْنِ ابِي طَالِبٍ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

ʿaliyyi bni abī ṭālibin wa raḥmatu llāhi wa barakātuh

`Ali the son of Abi-Talib. Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him,

وَعَلَىٰ مَجَالِسِهِ وَمَشَاهِدِهِ

wa ʿalā majālisihi wa mashāhidih

upon his sessions, upon his meeting-places,

وَمَقَامِ حِكْمَتِهِ وَآثَارِ آبَائِهِ

wa maqāmi ḥikmatihi wa āthāri ābāʾih

upon the places that witnessed his wisdom, upon the traces of his forefathers:

آدَمَ وَنُوحٍ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ

ādama wa nūḥin wa ibrāhīma wa ismāʿīl

Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Ishmael,

وَتِبْيَانِ بَيِّنَاتِهِ

wa tibyāni bayyinātih

and upon the places that witnessed the presentations of his evidences.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلإِمَامِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ ٱلْعَدْلِ

as-salāmu ʿala l-imāmi l-ḥakīmi l-ʿadl

Peace be upon the Imam: the wise, the just,

ٱلصِّدِّيقِ ٱلاكْبَرِ ٱلْفَارُوقِ بِٱلْقِسْطِ

aṣ-ṣiddīqi l-akbari l-fārūqi bi-l-qisṭ

the grandest veracious, and the fair distinguisher

ٱلَّذِي فَرَّقَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِ بَيْنَ ٱلْحَقِّ وَٱلْبَاطِلِ

alladhī farraqa llāhu bihi bayna l-ḥaqqi wa l-bāṭil

by whom Allah distinguished the right from the wrong,

وَٱلْكُفْرِ وَٱلإِيمَانِ

wa l-kufri wa l-īmān

atheism from (true) belief,

وَٱلشِّرْكِ وَٱلتَّوْحِيدِ

wa sh-shirki wa t-tawḥīd

and polytheism from monotheism,

لِيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنْ بَيِّنَةٍ

li-yahlika man halaka ʿan bayyinah

so that he who would perish might perish by clear proof

وَيَحْيَا مَنْ حَيَّ عَنْ بَيِّنَةٍ

wa yaḥyā man ḥayya ʿan bayyinah

and he who would live might live by clear proof.

اشْهَدُ انَّكَ امِيرُ ٱلْمُؤمِنِينَ

ashhadu annaka amīru l-muʾminīn

I bear witness that you are verily the commander of the faithful,

وَخَاصَّةُ نَفْسِ ٱلْمُنْتَجَبِينَ

wa khāṣṣatu nafsi l-muntajabīn

the elite of the selves of the select ones,

وَزَيْنُ ٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ

wa zaynu ṣ-ṣiddīqīn

the adornment of the veracious ones,

وَصَابِرُ ٱلْمُمْتَحَنِينَ

wa ṣābiru l-mumtaḥanīn

and the most steadfast among the tried ones;

وَانَّكَ حَكَمُ ٱللَّهِ فِي ارْضِهِ

wa annaka ḥakamu llāhi fī arḍih

and that you are verily the judge of Allah on His lands,

وَقَاضِي امْرِهِ وَبَابُ حِكْمَتِهِ

wa qāḍī amrihi wa bābu ḥikmatih

the decider according to His orders, the door to His wisdom,

وَعَاقِدُ عَهْدِهِ وَٱلنَّاطِقُ بِوَعْدِهِ

wa ʿāqidu ʿahdihi wa n-nāṭiqu bi-waʿdih

the maker of His pledge, the spokesman of His promise,

وَٱلْحَبْلُ ٱلْمَوْصُولُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ عِبَادِهِ

wa l-ḥablu l-mawṣūlu baynahu wa bayna ʿibādih

the rope that is connected between His servants and Him,

وَكَهْفُ ٱلنَّجَاةِ وَمِنْهَاجُ ٱلتُّقَىٰ

wa kahfu n-najāti wa minhāju t-tuqā

the haven of redemption, the course of piety,

وَٱلدَّرَجَةُ ٱلْعُلْيَا وَمُهَيْمِنُ ٱلْقَاضِي ٱلاعْلَىٰ

wa d-darajatu l-ʿulyā wa muhayminu l-qāḍi l-aʿlā

the most elevated rank, and the executor of the laws of the Most Exalted Judge.

يَا امِيرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

yā amīra l-muʾminīn

O Commander of the Faithful,

بِكَ اتَقَرَّبُ إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ زُلْفَىٰ

bika ataqarrabu ilā llāhi zulfā

through you do I seek close nearness to Allah

انْتَ وَلِيِّي وَسَيِّدِي

anta waliyyī wa sayyidī

for you are my chief, master,

وَوَسِيلَتِي فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa wasīlatī fi d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah

and means (to Allah) in this world as well as the Hereafter.

اللَّهُ اكْبَرُ ٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ ٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ

allāhu akbaru llāhu akbaru llāhu akbar

Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great.

هٰذَا مَقَامُ ٱلْعَائِذِ بِٱللَّهِ

hādhā maqāmu l-ʿāʾidhi bi-llāh

This is the situation of him who seeks refuge with Allah,

وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيبِ ٱللَّهِ

wa bi-muḥammadin ḥabībi llāh

with Muhammad the most beloved by Allah,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih

may Allah’s peace be upon him and his Household,

وَبِوِلايَةِ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

wa bi-wilāyati amīri l-muʾminīn

with the (Divinely commissioned) leadership of the Commander of the Faithful,

وَٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلْمَهْدِيِّينَ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ

wa l-aʾimmati l-mahdiyyīna ṣ-ṣādiqīn

and with the Imams; the well-guided, the veracious,

ٱلنَّاطِقِينَ ٱلرَّاشِدِينَ

an-nāṭiqīna r-rāshidīn

the spokesmen (of Allah), the orthodox,

ٱلَّذِينَ اذْهَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمُ ٱلرِّجْسَ

alladhīna adhhaba llāhu ʿanhumu r-rijs

from whom Allah removed filth

وَطَهَّرَهُمْ تَطْهِيراً

wa ṭahharahum taṭhīrā

and He purified them with thorough purification.

رَضِيتُ بِهِمْ ائِمَّةً وَهُدَاةً وَمَوَالِيَّ

raḍītu bihim aʾimmatan wa hudātan wa mawāliyy

I accept them as leaders, guides, and masters.

سَلَّمْتُ لاِمْرِ ٱللَّهِ لاَ اشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً

sallamtu li-amri llāhi lā ushriku bihi shayʾā

I succumb to the acts of Allah. I associate none with Him

وَلاَ اتَّخِذُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيّاً

wa lā attakhidhu maʿa llāhi waliyyā

and I do not betake any master other than Allah.

كَذَبَ ٱلْعَادِلُونَ بِٱللَّهِ

kadhaba l-ʿādilūna bi-llāh

Truly liars are those who set up equals with Allah

وَضَلُّوٱ ضَلاَلاً بَعِيداً

wa ḍallū ḍalālan baʿīdā

as they have certainly strayed off in remote error.

حَسْبِيَ ٱللَّهُ وَاوْلِيَاءُ ٱللَّهِ

ḥasbiya llāhu wa awliyāʾu llāh

Sufficient for me are Allah and the saints of Allah.

اشْهَدُ انْ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ

ashhadu an lā ilāha illā llāh

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,

وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ

waḥdahu lā sharīka lah

alone without having any partner.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

wa ashhadu anna muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh

And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih

may Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household,

وَانَّ عَلِيّاً وَٱلائِمَّةَ ٱلْمَهْدِيِّينَ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

wa anna ʿaliyyan wa l-aʾimmata l-mahdiyyīna min dhurriyyatihi ʿalayhimu s-salām

and that `Ali and the well-guided Imams from his progeny, peace be upon them all,

اوْلِيَائِي وَحُجَّةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ

awliyāʾī wa ḥujjatu llāhi ʿalā khalqih

are my masters and the arguments of Allah against His created beings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ عِبَادِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصَّالِحِينَ ٱلرَّاشِدِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalā ʿibādi llāhi ṣ-ṣāliḥīna r-rāshidīn

Peace be upon the righteous, orthodox servants of Allah

ٱلَّذِينَ اذْهَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمُ ٱلرِّجْسَ وَطَهَّرَهُمْ تَطْهِيراً

alladhīna adhhaba llāhu ʿanhumu r-rijsa wa ṭahharahum taṭhīrā

from whom Allah has removed filth and purified them a thorough purification.

وَجَعَلَهُمْ انْبِيَاءَ مُرْسَلِينَ

wa jaʿalahum anbiyāʾa mursalīn

He also made them Prophets and Messengers

وَحُجَّةً عَلَىٰ ٱلْخَلْقِ اجْمَعِينَ

wa ḥujjatan ʿala l-khalqi ajmaʿīn

and set them as arguments against all the created beings.

وَسَلاَمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

wa salāmun ʿala l-mursalīn

Peace be upon the Messengers

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

wa l-ḥamdu li-llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

and all praise be to Allah the Lord of the worlds.

ذٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ

dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

This is the arrangement of the Mighty, Knowing Lord.

سَلامٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِي ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

salāmun ʿalā nūḥin fi l-ʿālamīn

Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations.

نَحْنُ عَلَىٰ وَصِيَّتِكَ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

naḥnu ʿalā waṣiyyatika yā waliyya l-muʾminīn

O master of the believers, we are abiding by your precept

ٱلَّتِي اوْصَيْتَ بِهَا ذُرِّيَّتَكَ

allatī awṣayta bihā dhurriyyatak

that you provided to your offspring:

مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ

mina l-mursalīna wa ṣ-ṣiddīqīn

the Messengers and the veracious ones.

وَنَحْنُ مِنْ شِيعَتِكَ

wa naḥnu min shīʿatik

And we are among your adherents

وَشِيعَةِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ

wa shīʿati nabiyyinā muḥammad

and among the adherents of our Prophet Muhammad,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih

peace of Allah be upon him and his Household

وَعَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

wa ʿalayka wa ʿalā jamīʿi l-mursalīn

and upon you as well as all the Messengers,

وَٱلانْبِيَاءِ وَٱلصَّادِقِينَ

wa l-anbiyāʾi wa ṣ-ṣādiqīn

Prophets, and veracious ones.

وَنَحْنُ عَلَىٰ مِلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

wa naḥnu ʿalā millati ibrāhīm

And we are also following the doctrine of Abraham,

وَدِينِ مُحَمَّدٍ ٱلنَّبِيِّ ٱلامِّيِّ

wa dīni muḥammadini n-nabiyyi l-ummiyy

the religion of Muhammad the Meccan Prophet,

وَٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلْمَهْدِيِّينَ

wa l-aʾimmati l-mahdiyyīn

and the religion of the well-guided Imams,

وَوِلايَةِ مَوْلاَنَا عَلِيٍّ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

wa wilāyati mawlānā ʿaliyyin amīri l-muʾminīn

and we are loyal to the (Divinely commissioned) leadership of `Ali, the Commander of the Faithful.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْبَشِيرِ ٱلنَّذِيرِ

as-salāmu ʿala l-bashīri n-nadhīr

Peace be upon the bearer of glad tidings (for the believers) and the warner (against Allah’s chastisement).

صَلَوَاتُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ

ṣalawātu llāhi ʿalayh

May Allah’s peace,

وَرَحْمَتُهُ وَرِضْوَانُهُ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wa raḥmatuhu wa riḍwānuhu wa barakātuh

mercy, pleasure, and blessings be upon him,

وَعَلَىٰ وَصِيِّهِ وَخَلِيفَتِهِ

wa ʿalā waṣiyyihi wa khalīfatih

and upon his successor and vicegerent:

ٱلشَّاهِدِ لِلهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ

ash-shāhidi li-llāhi min baʿdihi ʿalā khalqih

the witness on Allah’s creatures after him (the Prophet),

عَلِيٍّ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

ʿaliyyin amīri l-muʾminīn

`Ali, the Commander of the Faithful,

ٱلصِّدِّيقِ ٱلاكْبَرِ وَٱلْفَارُوقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

aṣ-ṣiddīqi l-akbari wa l-fārūqi l-mubīn

the grandest veracious, and the clear distinguisher (between the right and the wrong),

ٱلَّذِي اخَذْتَ بَيْعَتَهُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

alladhī akhadhta bayʿatahu ʿala l-ʿālamīn

whom You have ordered the peoples to swear allegiance to him.

رَضِيتُ بِهِمْ اوْلِيَاءَ وَمَوَالِيَّ وَحُكَّاماً

raḍītu bihim awliyāʾa wa mawāliyya wa ḥukkāmā

I thus accept them as masters, leaders, and rulers,

فِي نَفْسِي وَوُلْدِي وَاهْلِي وَمَالِي وَقِسْمِي

fī nafsī wa wuldī wa ahlī wa mālī wa qismī

over myself, my progeny, my family members, my property, whatever sustenance You decide for me,

وَحِلِّي وَإِحْرَامِي وَإِسْلاَمِي وَدِينِي

wa ḥillī wa iḥrāmī wa islāmī wa dīnī

whatever is legal or illegal for me to do, my being Muslim, my religion,

وَدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي

wa dunyāya wa ākhiratī wa maḥyāya wa mamātī

my worldly life, my Next Life, my being kept alive, and my death.

انْتُمُ ٱلائِمَّةُ فِي ٱلْكِتَابِ

antumu l-aʾimmatu fi l-kitāb

You (the Infallible Imams) are indeed the Imams whom are mentioned in the (Holy) Book

وَفَصْلُ ٱلْمَقَامِ وَفَصْلُ ٱلْخِطَابِ

wa faṣlu l-maqāmi wa faṣlu l-khiṭāb

and you are the clear leaders in all situations, the clear judges,

وَاعْيُنُ ٱلْحَيِّ ٱلَّذِي لاَ يَنَامُ

wa aʿyunu l-ḥayyi lladhī lā yanām

the eyes of the Ever-living Lord Who never sleeps,

وَانْتُمْ حُكَمَاءُ ٱللَّهِ

wa antum ḥukamāʾu llāh

and the judging representatives of Allah.

وَبِكُمْ حَكَمَ ٱللَّهُ وَبِكُمْ عُرِفَ حَقُّ ٱللَّهِ

wa bikum ḥakama llāhu wa bikum ʿurifa ḥaqqu llāh

Through you has Allah judged and though you was the right of Allah recognized.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ

lā ilāha illā llāhu muḥammadun rasūlu llāh

There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.

انْتُمْ نُورُ ٱللَّهِ مِنْ بَيْنِ ايْدِينَا وَمِنْ خَلْفِنَا

antum nūru llāhi min bayni aydīnā wa min khalfinā

You are the Light of Allah that lies before and behind us.

انْتُمْ سُنَّةُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِي بِهَا سَبَقَ ٱلْقَضَاءُ

antum sunnatu llāhi llatī bihā sabaqa l-qaḍāʾ

You are the instructions of Allah that He has decided before all things.

يَا امِيرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

yā amīra l-muʾminīn

O Commander of the Faithful,

انَا لَكُمْ مُسَلِّمٌ تَسْلِيماً

anā lakum musallimun taslīmā

I submit to you with thorough submission,

لاَ اشْرِكُ بِٱللَّهِ شَيْئاً

lā ushriku bi-llāhi shayʾā

I never associate with Allah anything [or anyone],

وَلاَ اتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُونِهِ وَلِيّاً

wa lā attakhidhu min dūnihi waliyyā

and I never betake a master other than Him.

الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ ٱلَّذِي هَدَانِي بِكُمْ

al-ḥamdu li-llāhi lladhī hadānī bikum

All praise be to Allah Who has guided me to this,

وَمَا كُنْتُ لاِهْتَدِيَ لَوْلاَ انْ هَدَانِيَ ٱللَّهُ

wa mā kuntu li-ahtadiya lawlā an hadāniya llāh

and I should never have been guided if Allah had not guided me.

اللَّهُ اكْبَرُ ٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ ٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ

allāhu akbaru llāhu akbaru llāhu akbar

Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great.

الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَانَا

al-ḥamdu li-llāhi ʿalā mā hadānā

All praise be to Allah for that to which He has guided us.

يَا مَالِكِي وَمُمَلِّكِي

yā mālikī wa mumallikī

O He Who possesses me, He Who endows me with possessions,

وَمُتَغَمِّدِي بِٱلنِّعَمِ ٱلْجِسَامِ

wa mutaghammidī bi-n-niʿami l-jisām

and He Who encompasses me with enormous bounties

مِنْ غَيْرِ ٱسْتِحْقَاقٍ

min ghayri stiḥqāq

albeit that I do not deserve them.

وَجْهِي خَاضِعٌ لِمَا تَعْلُوهُ ٱلاقْدَامُ

wajhī khāḍiʿun limā taʿlūhu l-aqdām

My face is humble to what is overtopped by feet

لِجَلاَلِ وَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ

li-jalāli wajhika l-karīm

due to the majesty of Your Noble Face.

لاَ تَجْعَلْ هٰذِهِ ٱلشِّدَّةَ وَلاَ هٰذِهِ ٱلْمِحْنَةَ

lā tajʿal hādhihi sh-shiddata wa lā hādhihi l-miḥnah

(Please) do not make this hardship and this ordeal

مُتّصِلَةً بِٱسْتِيصَالِ ٱلشَّافَةِ

muttaṣilatan bi-stīṣāli sh-shaʾfah

to be continual until they lead to the extirpation of the root.

وَٱمْنَحْنِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

wa mnaḥnī min faḍlik

And (please) grant me from Your favor

مَا لَمْ تَمْنَحْ بِهِ احَداً مِنْ غَيْرِ مَسْالَةٍ

mā lam tamnaḥ bihi aḥadan min ghayri masʾalah

more than that which You have granted to any body who has not asked You to grant him.

انْتَ ٱلْقَدِيمُ ٱلاوَّلُ

anta l-qadīmu l-awwal

You are verily the Eternal and the First Lord

ٱلَّذِي لَمْ تَزَلْ وَلاَ تَزَالُ

alladhī lam tazal wa lā tazāl

Who has neither beginning nor end.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

(please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱرْحَمْنِي

wa ghfir lī wa rḥamnī

forgive me, have mercy on me,

وَزَكِّ عَمَلِي وَبَارِكْ لِي فِي اجَلِي

wa zakki ʿamalī wa bārik lī fī ajalī

admit my deeds, bless my lifetime,

وَٱجْعَلْنِي مِنْ عُتَقَائِكَ وَطُلَقَائِكَ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ

wa jʿalnī min ʿutaqāʾika wa ṭulaqāʾika mina n-nār

and include me with those whom You release and pardon from Hellfire,

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

bi-raḥmatika yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

in the name of Your mercy, O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ذَخَرْتُ تَوْحِيدِي إِيَّاكَ

allāhumma innī dhakhartu tawḥīdī iyyāk

O Allah, I save (the reward of) my submission to Your Oneness,

وَمَعْرِفَتِي بِكَ وَإِخْلاَصِي لَكَ

wa maʿrifatī bika wa ikhlāṣī lak

my recognition of You, my sincerity to You,

وَإِقْرَارِي بِرُبُوبِيَّتِكَ

wa iqrārī bi-rubūbiyyatik

and my bearing witness of Your Godhead,

وَذَخَرْتُ وِلايَةَ مَنْ انْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ بِمَعْرِفَتِهِمْ مِنْ بَرِيَّتِكَ

wa dhakhartu wilāyata man anʿamta ʿalayya bi-maʿrifatihim min bariyyatik

and I also save (the reward of) my loyalty to those with the recognition of whom You have bestowed upon me:

مُحَمَّدٍ وَعِتْرَتِهِ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ

muḥammadin wa ʿitratihi ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhim

namely, Muhammad and his Household, peace of Allah be upon them,

لِيَوْمِ فَزَعِي إِلَيْكَ عَاجِلاً وَآجِلاً

li-yawmi fazaʿī ilayka ʿājilan wa ājilā

(I save all that) to the day of my taking refuge with You, whether in this world or the Hereafter.

وَقَدْ فَزِعْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَيْهِمْ يَا مَوْلاَيَ

wa qad faziʿtu ilayka wa ilayhim yā mawlāy

Thus, I am now taking refuge with You, O my Master, and with them,

فِي هٰذَا ٱلْيَوْمِ وَفِي مَوْقِفِي هٰذَا

fī hādha l-yawmi wa fī mawqifī hādhā

on this day and on this very situation,

وَسَالْتُكَ مَا زَكَا مِنْ نِعْمَتِكَ

wa saʾaltuka mā zakā min niʿmatik

and I thus beg You for Your increasing bounties,

وَإِزَاحَةَ مَا اخْشَاهُ مِنْ نِقْمَتِكَ

wa izāḥata mā akhshāhu min niqmatik

for removing from me Your chastisement that I fear,

وَٱلْبَرَكَةَ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنِيهِ

wa l-barakata fīmā razaqtanīh

for blessing all the sustenance which You grant me,

وَتَحْصِينَ صَدْرِي مِنْ كُلِّ هَمٍّ

wa taḥṣīna ṣadrī min kulli hamm

and for immunizing my heart from receiving any grievous matter,

وَجَائِحَةٍ وَمَعْصِيَةٍ

wa jāʾiḥatin wa maʿṣiyah

any calamity, or any act of disobedience to You,

فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي

fī dīnī wa dunyāya wa ākhiratī

regarding my religion, worldly life, and the Next Life.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

اَللَّهُمَّ انْتَ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

allāhumma anta s-salām

O Allah, You are the Peace.

وَمِنْكَ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

wa minka s-salām

You are the source of peace.

وَإِلَيْكَ يَعُودُ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

wa ilayka yaʿūdu s-salām

To You does peace belong.

وَدَارُكَ دَارُ ٱلسَّلاَمِ

wa dāruka dāru s-salām

Your abode is the abode of peace.

حَيِّنَا رَبَّنَا مِنْكَ بِٱلسَّلاَمِ

ḥayyinā rabbanā minka bi-s-salām

So, our Lord, greet us with peace from You.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي صَلَّيْتُ هٰذِهِ ٱلصَّلاَةَ

allāhumma innī ṣallaytu hādhihi ṣ-ṣalāh

O Allah, I have offered this prayer,

ٱبْتِغَاءَ رَحْمَتِكَ وَرِضْوَانِكَ وَمَغْفِرَتِكَ

ibtighāʾa raḥmatika wa riḍwānika wa maghfiratik

seeking Your mercy, pleasure, forgiveness,

وَتَعْظِيماً لِمَسْجِدِكَ

wa taʿẓīman li-masjidik

and as sign of my esteeming Your mosque.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allāhumma fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَٱرْفَعْهَا فِي عِلِّيِّينَ

wa rfaʿhā fī ʿilliyyīn

raise my prayer to the most elevated place,

وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّي يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

wa taqabbalhā minnī yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

and accept it from me, O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِٱللَّهِ

bismi llāhi wa bi-llāh

In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust),

وَعَلَىٰ مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

wa ʿalā millati rasūli llāh

and the course of Allah’s Messenger,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ālih

peace be upon him and his Household, (I follow).

وَلاَ إِلهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ

wa lā ilāha illā llāh

There is no god but Allah.

مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ

muḥammadun rasūlu llāh

Muhammad is Allah’s messenger.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ابِينَا آدَمَ وَامِّنَا حَوَّاءَ

as-salāmu ʿalā abīnā ādama wa umminā ḥawwāʾ

Peace be upon our father Adam and our mother Eve.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ هَابِيلَ ٱلْمَقْتُولِ ظُلْماً وَعُدْوَاناً

as-salāmu ʿalā hābīla l-maqtūli ẓulman wa ʿudwānā

Peace be upon Abel who was killed wrongly and aggressively,

عَلَىٰ مَوَاهِبِ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانِهِ

ʿalā mawāhibi llāhi wa riḍwānih

because he was envied for Allah’s favors and pleasure.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ شَيْثٍ صَفْوَةِ ٱللَّهِ

as-salāmu ʿalā shaythin ṣafwati llāh

Peace be upon Sheeth, the select of Allah,

ٱلْمُخْتَارِ ٱلامِينِ

al-mukhtāri l-amīn

the chosen and trustee,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلصَّفْوَةِ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ

wa ʿala ṣ-ṣafwati ṣ-ṣādiqīna min dhurriyyatihi ṭ-ṭayyibīn

and upon the veracious, select ones from his immaculate progeny,

اوَّلِهِمْ وَآخِرِهِمْ

awwalihim wa ākhirihim

from the first to the last.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ

as-salāmu ʿalā ibrāhīma wa ismāʿīl

Peace be upon Abraham, Ishmael,

وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ

wa isḥāqa wa yaʿqūb

Isaac, and Jacob,

وَعَلَىٰ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمُ ٱلْمُخْتَارِينَ

wa ʿalā dhurriyyatihimu l-mukhtārīn

and upon their chosen descendants.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ كَلِيمِ ٱللَّهِ

as-salāmu ʿalā mūsā kalīmi llāh

Peace be upon Moses the spoken by Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ عِيسَىٰ رُوحِ ٱللَّهِ

as-salāmu ʿalā ʿīsā rūḥi llāh

Peace be upon Jesus the spirit of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ بْنِ عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ خَاتِمِ ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ

as-salāmu ʿalā muḥammadin bni ʿabdi llāhi khātimi n-nabiyyīn

Peace be upon Muhammad the son of `Abdullah, the seal of the Prophets.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalā amīri l-muʾminīna wa dhurriyyatihi ṭ-ṭayyibīn

Peace be upon the Commander of the Faithful and upon his immaculate progeny.

وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

wa raḥmatu llāhi wa barakātuh

Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon them.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي ٱلاوَّلِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalaykum fi l-awwalīn

Peace be upon you among the ancient generations.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي ٱلآخِرينِ

as-salāmu ʿalaykum fi l-ākhirīn

Peace be upon you among the coming generations.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ فَاطِمَةَ ٱلزَّهْرَاءِ

as-salāmu ʿalā fāṭimata z-zahrāʾ

Peace be upon Fatimah al-Zahra' (the Luminous Lady).

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلْهَادِينَ

as-salāmu ʿala l-aʾimmati l-hādīn

Peace be upon the guiding Imams:

شُهَدَاءِ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ

shuhadāʾi llāhi ʿalā khalqih

the witnesses of Allah upon His created beings.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلرَّقِيبِ ٱلشَّاهِدِ عَلَىٰ ٱلامَمِ لِلهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

as-salāmu ʿala r-raqībi sh-shāhidi ʿala l-amami li-llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

Peace be upon the supervisor: the witness on the nations for Allah the Lord of the worlds.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ قَدْ عَصَيْتُكَ

allāhumma in kuntu qad ʿaṣaytuk

O Allah, if I have disobeyed you,

فَإِنِّي قَدْ اطَعْتُكَ فِي ٱلإِيمَانِ مِنِّي بِكَ

fa-innī qad aṭaʿtuka fi l-īmāni minnī bik

I have also obeyed you in my belief in You.

مَنّاً مِنْكَ عَلَيَّ لاَ مَنّاً مِنِّي عَلَيْكَ

mannan minka ʿalayya lā mannan minnī ʿalayk

This is out of Your favoring upon me, not a favor that I do to You.

وَاطَعْتُكَ فِي احَبِّ ٱلاشْيَاءِ لَكَ

wa aṭaʿtuka fī aḥabbi l-ashyāʾi lak

I have also obeyed You in the things that You most like:

لَمْ اتَّخِذْ لَكَ وَلَداً

lam attakhidh laka waladā

I have not claimed that You have child

وَلَمْ ادْعُ لَكَ شَرِيكاً

wa lam adʿu laka sharīkā

and I have not associated any one with You.

وَقَدْ عَصَيْتُكَ فِي اشْيَاءَ كَثِيرَةٍ

wa qad ʿaṣaytuka fī ashyāʾa kathīrah

Yet, I have disobeyed You in many things,

عَلَىٰ غَيْرِ وَجْهِ ٱلْمُكَابَرَةِ لَكَ

ʿalā ghayri wajhi l-mukābarati lak

on account of neither defiance,

وَلاَ ٱلْخُرُوجِ عَنْ عُبُودِيَّتِكَ

wa la l-khurūji ʿan ʿubūdiyyatik

nor mutiny against my servitude to You,

وَلاَ ٱلْجُحُودِ لِرُبُوبِيَّتِكَ

wa la l-juḥūdi li-rubūbiyyatik

nor denial of Your Godhead;

وَلَكِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتُ هَوَايَ

wa lakini ttabaʿtu hawāy

rather, I only followed my lusts,

وَازَلَّنِيَ ٱلشَّيْطَانُ بَعْدَ ٱلْحُجَّةِ عَلَيَّ وَٱلْبَيَانِ

wa azallaniya sh-shayṭānu baʿda l-ḥujjati ʿalayya wa l-bayān

and Satan caused me to slip although You have had clear argument against me.

فَإِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَبِذُنُوبِي غَيْرَ ظَالِمٍ لِي

fa-in tuʿadhdhibnī fa-bi-dhunūbī ghayra ẓālimin lī

Thus, if You chastise me, then it is on account of my sins and You are never unjust to me.

وَإِنْ تَعْفُ عَنِّي وَتَرْحَمْنِي

wa in taʿfu ʿannī wa tarḥamnī

And if You pardon me and have mercy upon me,

فَبِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ

fa-bi-jūdika wa karamika yā karīm

then this is out of Your magnanimity and generosity, O All-generous.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ ذُنُوبِي لَمْ يَبْقَ لَهَا إِلاَّ رَجَاءُ عَفْوِكَ

allāhumma inna dhunūbī lam yabqa lahā illā rajāʾu ʿafwik

O Allah, nothing can stand for my sins except my hope in Your pardon,

وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ آلَةَ ٱلْحِرْمَانِ

wa qad qaddamtu ālata l-ḥirmān

although I have done things due to which I deserve deprivation of Your pardon.

فَانَا اسْالُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ مَا لاَ اسْتَوْجِبُهُ

fa-anā asʾaluka llāhumma mā lā astawjibuh

Therefore, I beseech You, O Allah, for that which I do not deserve

وَاطْلُبُ مِنْكَ مَا لاَ اسْتَحِقُّهُ

wa aṭlubu minka mā lā astaḥiqquh

and I seek from You that which I do not merit.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَبِذُنُوبِي وَلَمْ تَظْلِمْنِي شَيْئاً

allāhumma in tuʿadhdhibnī fa-bi-dhunūbī wa lam taẓlimnī shayʾā

O Allah, if you chastise me, then this will be on account of my sins and You shall never be unjust to me.

وَإِنْ تَغْفِرْ لِي فَخَيْرُ رَاحِمٍ انْتَ يَا سَيِّدِي

wa in taghfir lī fa-khayru rāḥimin anta yā sayyidī

But if You forgive me, then You are already the best of all those who show mercy, O my Master.

اَللَّهُمَّ انْتَ انْتَ وَانَا انَا

allāhumma anta anta wa anā anā

O Allah, You are what You are and I am what I am:

انْتَ ٱلْعَوَّادُ بِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ

anta l-ʿawwādu bi-l-maghfirah

You are always returning with forgiveness

وَانَا ٱلْعَوَّادُ بِٱلذُّنُوبِ

wa ana l-ʿawwādu bi-dh-dhunūb

and I always return with sinning.

وَانْتَ ٱلْمُتَفَضِّلُ بِٱلْحِلْمِ

wa anta l-mutafaḍḍilu bi-l-ḥilm

You always confer with forbearance

وَانَا ٱلْعَوَّادُ بِٱلْجَهْلِ

wa ana l-ʿawwādu bi-l-jahl

and I always return with impatience.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَإِنِّي اسْالُكَ يَا كَنْزَ ٱلضُّعَفَاءِ

allāhumma fa-innī asʾaluka yā kanza ḍ-ḍuʿafāʾ

O Allah, I do beseech You, O treasure of the weak,

يَا عَظِيمَ ٱلرَّجَاءِ يَا مُنْقِذَ ٱلْغَرْقَىٰ

yā ʿaẓīma r-rajāʾi yā munqidha l-gharqā

O He in Whom great hope is put, O rescuer of the drowned,

يَا مُنْجِيَ ٱلْهَلْكَىٰ يَا مُمِيتَ ٱلاحْيَاءِ

yā munjiya l-halkā yā mumīta l-aḥyāʾ

O savior of those about to perish, O He Who causes the alive to die,

يَا مُحْيِيَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

yā muḥyiya l-mawtā

O He Who causes the dead to live again!

انْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

anta llāhu lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god but You.

انْتَ ٱلَّذِي سَجَدَ لَكَ شُعَاعُ ٱلشَّمْسِ

anta lladhī sajada laka shuʿāʿu sh-shams

It is You before Whom has prostrated the ray of the sun,

وَدَوِيُّ ٱلْمَاءِ وَحَفِيفُ ٱلشَّجَرِ

wa dawiyyu l-māʾi wa ḥafīfu sh-shajar

the sound of water, the rustling of trees,

وَنُورُ ٱلْقَمَرِ وَظُلْمَةُ ٱللَّيْلِ

wa nūru l-qamari wa ẓulmatu llayl

and the moonlight, the murk of night,

وَضَوْءُ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَخَفَقَانُ ٱلطَّيْرِ

wa ḍawʾu n-nahāri wa khafaqānu ṭ-ṭayr

the light of daytime, and the flapping of birds.

فَاسْالُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ يَا عَظِيمُ

fa-asʾaluka llāhumma yā ʿaẓīm

I thus beseech You, O All-great,

بِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ

bi-ḥaqqika ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihi ṣ-ṣādiqīn

in the name of the duty of Muhammad and his veracious Household towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi muḥammadin wa ālihi ṣ-ṣādiqīna ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards Muhammad and his veracious Household,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ عَلِيٍّ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿalā ʿaliyy

in the name of the duty of `Ali towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi ʿaliyyin ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards `Ali,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ فَاطِمَةَ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿalā fāṭimah

in the name of the duty of Fatimah towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ فَاطِمَةَ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi fāṭimata ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards Fatimah,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحَسَنِ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿala l-ḥasan

in the name of the duty of al-Hasan towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْحَسَنِ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi l-ḥasani ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards al-Hasan,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿala l-ḥusayn

in the name of the duty of al-Husayn towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi l-ḥusayni ʿalayk

and in the name of Your duty towards al-Husayn.

فَإِنَّ حُقُوقَهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ افْضَلِ إِنْعَامِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ

fa-inna ḥuqūqahum ʿalayka min afḍali inʿāmika ʿalayhim

Verily, Your duty towards them is one of the greatest blessings that You conferred upon them.

وَبِٱلشَّانِ الَّذِي لَكَ عِنْدَهُمْ

wa bi-sh-shaʾni lladhī laka ʿindahum

And (I beseech You) in the name of the position that You enjoy with them

وَبِٱلشَّانِ الَّذِي لَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ

wa bi-sh-shaʾni lladhī lahum ʿindak

and in the name of the position that they enjoy with You

صَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ يَا رَبِّ صَلاَةً دَائِمَةً مُنْتَهَىٰ رِضَاكَ

ṣalli ʿalayhim yā rabbi ṣalātan dāʾimatan muntahā riḍāk

to (please) bless them, O Lord, with blessings that are as endless until they attain Your pleasure,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِي بِهِمُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ

wa ghfir lī bihimu dh-dhunūba llatī baynī wa baynak

to forgive me, in their names, the sins that I committed concerning my duties towards You,

وَارْضِ عَنِّي خَلْقَكَ

wa arḍi ʿannī khalqak

to make Your creatures to be satisfied with me,

وَاتْمِمْ عَلَيَّ نِعْمَتَكَ

wa atmim ʿalayya niʿmatak

to complete Your favors upon me

كَمَا اتْمَمْتَهَا عَلَىٰ آبَائِي مِنْ قَبْلُ

kamā atmamtahā ʿalā ābāʾī min qabl

in the same way as You had completed them upon my forefathers,

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْ لاِحَدٍ مِنَ ٱلْمَخْلُوقِينَ عَلَيَّ فِيهَا ٱمْتِنَاناً

wa lā tajʿal li-aḥadin mina l-makhlūqīna ʿalayya fīhā mtinānā

not to cause any of Your creatures to have any role in these favors,

وَٱمْنُنْ عَلَيَّ كَمَا مَنَنْتَ عَلَىٰ آبَائِي مِنْ قَبْلُ

wa mnun ʿalayya kamā mananta ʿalā ābāʾī min qabl

to confer upon me with graces in the same way as You had already done with my forefathers,

يَا كٰ هٰ يٰ ع صٰ

yā kāf hā yā ʿayn ṣād

ya kaf ha' ya' `ayn sad

اَللَّهُمَّ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ

allāhumma kamā ṣallayta ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālih

O Allah, in the same way as You have poured blessings upon Muhammad and his Household,

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي دُعَائِي فِيمَا سَالْتُ

fa-stajib lī duʿāʾī fīmā saʾalt

(please) respond to my entreaty as regards that which I have asked from You,

يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ

yā karīmu yā karīmu yā karīm

O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!

يَا مَنْ تُحَلُّ بِهِ عُقَدُ ٱلْمَكَارِهِ

yā man tuḥallu bihi ʿuqadu l-makārih

O He through whom the knots of detested things are untied!

وَيَا مَنْ يُفْثَا بِهِ حَدُّ ٱلشَّدَائِدِ…

wa yā man yufthaʾu bihi ḥaddu sh-shadāʾid…

O He through whom the cutting edge of hardships is blunted!…

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ وَلاَ اعْلَمُ

allāhumma innaka taʿlamu wa lā aʿlam

O Allah, You verily know while I do not,

وَتَقْدِرُ وَلاَ اقْدِرُ

wa taqdiru wa lā aqdir

You have power (over all things) while I do not,

وَانْتَ عَلاَّمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ

wa anta ʿallāmu l-ghuyūb

and You are the Knower of all unseen things.

صَلِّ ٱللَّهُمَّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ṣalli llāhumma ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

(Please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱرْحَمْنِي وَتَجَاوَزْ عَنِّي

wa ghfir lī wa rḥamnī wa tajāwaz ʿannī

forgive me, have mercy upon me, overlook my sins,

وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيَّ مَا انْتَ اهْلُهُ

wa taṣaddaq ʿalayya mā anta ahluh

and confer upon me with that which is befitting You,

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

يَا مَنْ يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ حَوَائِجِ ٱلسَّائِلِينَ

yā man yaqdiru ʿalā ḥawāʾiji s-sāʾilīn

O He Who has full power over settling the requests of the beseechers

وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي ضَمِيرِ ٱلصَّامِتِينَ

wa yaʿlamu mā fī ḍamīri ṣ-ṣāmitīn

and Who knows what is hidden in the inner selves of the silent ones.

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَحْتَاجُ إِلَىٰ ٱلتَّفْسِيرِ

yā man lā yaḥtāju ila t-tafsīr

O He Who does not require explanation.

يَا مَنْ يَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ ٱلاعْيُنِ

yā man yaʿlamu khāʾinata l-aʿyun

O He Who knows the stealthy looks

وَمَا تُخْفِي ٱلصُّدُورُ

wa mā tukhfi ṣ-ṣudūr

and that which the breasts conceal.

يَا مَنْ انْزَلَ ٱلْعَذَابَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِ يُونُسَ

yā man anzala l-ʿadhāba ʿalā qawmi yūnus

O He Who decided chastisement to befall the people of (Prophet) Jonah

وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ انْ يُعَذِّبَهُمْ

wa huwa yurīdu an yuʿadhdhibahum

and as He decided to chastise them,

فَدَعَوْهُ وَتَضَرَّعُوٱ إِلَيْهِ

fa-daʿawhu wa taḍarraʿū ilayh

they prayed Him and besought Him;

فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ وَمَتَّعَهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

fa-kashafa ʿanhumu l-ʿadhāba wa mattaʿahum ilā ḥīn

so, He removed from them the chastisement and He gave them provision until a time.

قَدْ تَرَىٰ مَكَانِي وَتَسْمَعُ دُعَائِي

qad tarā makānī wa tasmaʿu duʿāʾī

You do see where I am, You do hear my prayer,

وَتَعْلَمُ سِرِّي وَعَلاَنِيَتِي وَحَالِي

wa taʿlamu sirrī wa ʿalāniyatī wa ḥālī

You do know what I conceal, what I declare, and in what situation I am:

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

(please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَٱكْفِنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي

wa kfinī mā ahammanī

and relieve me from all that which has aggrieved me

مِنْ امْرِ دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي

min amri dīnī wa dunyāya wa ākhiratī

from the affairs of my religion, my worldly life, and my Next Life.

يَا سَيِّدِي

yā sayyidī

O my Master.

يَا رَبِّ اسْالُكَ بَرَكَةَ هٰذَا ٱلْمَوْضِعِ

yā rabbi asʾaluka barakata hādha l-mawḍiʿ

O my Lord, I pray You to grant me the blessing of this place

وَبَرَكَةَ اهْلِهِ

wa barakata ahlih

and the blessing of its people.

وَاسْالُكَ انْ تَرْزُقَنِي مِنْ رِزْقِكَ

wa asʾaluka an tarzuqanī min rizqik

And I pray You to grant me sustenance from Your sustenance;

رِزْقاً حَلاَلاً طَيِّباً

rizqan ḥalālan ṭayyibā

sustenance that is legal and pleasant,

تَسُوقُهُ إِلَيَّ بِحَوْلِكَ وَقُوَّتِكَ

tasūquhu ilayya bi-ḥawlika wa quwwatik

and that You bring it to me by Your might and power,

وَانَا خَائِضٌ فِي عَافِيَةٍ

wa anā khāʾiḍun fī ʿāfiyah

while I experience good health,

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ بِجَمِيعِ اسْمَائِكَ كُلِّهَا

allāhumma innī asʾaluka bi-jamīʿi asmāʾika kullihā

O Allah, I beseech You in the name of all Your Names:

مَا عَلِمْنَا مِنْهَا وَمَا لاَ نَعْلَمُ

mā ʿalimnā minhā wa mā lā naʿlam

those which we know and those which we do not.

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٱلاعْظَمِ

wa asʾaluka bi-smika l-ʿaẓīmi l-aʿẓam

And I beseech You in the name of Your Great, All-great,

ٱلْكَبِيرِ ٱلاكْبَرِ

al-kabīri l-akbar

grand, and All-grand Name,

ٱلَّذِي مَنْ دَعَاكَ بِهِ اجَبْتَهُ

alladhī man daʿāka bihi ajabtah

which if one beseeches You by it, You will respond to him,

وَمَنْ سَالَكَ بِهِ اعْطَيْتَهُ

wa man saʾalaka bihi aʿṭaytah

if one begs you by it, You will give him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَنْصَرَكَ بِهِ نَصَرْتَهُ

wa mani stanṣaraka bihi naṣartah

if one asks You for victory by it, You will give him victory,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَغْفَرَكَ بِهِ غَفَرْتَ لَهُ

wa mani staghfaraka bihi ghafarta lah

if one asks for Your forgiveness by it, You will forgive him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَعَانَكَ بِهِ اعَنْتَهُ

wa mani staʿānaka bihi aʿantah

if one seeks Your aid by it, You will aid him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَرْزَقَكَ بِهِ رَزَقْتَهُ

wa mani starzaqaka bihi razaqtah

if one solicits You by it for sustenance, You will grant him sustenance,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَغَاثَكَ بِهِ اغَثْتَهُ

wa mani staghāthaka bihi aghathtah

if one seeks Your help by it, You will help him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَرْحَمَكَ بِهِ رَحِمْتَهُ

wa mani starḥamaka bihi raḥimtah

if one begs Your mercy by it, You will have mercy upon him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَجَارَكَ بِهِ اجَرْتَهُ

wa mani stajāraka bihi ajartah

if one seeks refuge with You by it, You will protect him,

وَمَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَيْكَ بِهِ كَفَيْتَهُ

wa man tawakkala ʿalayka bihi kafaytah

if one asks for Your support by it, You will support him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَعْصَمَكَ بِهِ عَصَمْتَهُ

wa mani staʿṣamaka bihi ʿaṣamtah

if one seeks Your shield by it, You will guard him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَنْقَذَكَ بِهِ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ انْقَذْتَهُ

wa mani stanqadhaka bihi mina n-nāri anqadhtah

if one seeks You by it to save him from Hellfire, You will save him,

وَمَنِ ٱسْتَعْطَفَكَ بِهِ تَعَطَّفْتَ لَهُ

wa mani staʿṭafaka bihi taʿaṭṭafta lah

if one seeks Your kindness by it, You will be kind to him,

وَمَنْ امَّلَكَ بِهِ اعْطَيْتَهُ

wa man ammalaka bihi aʿṭaytah

and if one puts hope in You by it, You will give him:

ٱلَّذِي ٱتَّخَذْتَ بِهِ آدَمَ صَفِيّاً

alladhī ttakhadhta bihi ādama ṣafiyyā

the Name by which You have betaken Adam as Your choice,

وَنُوحاً نَجِيّاً وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلاً

wa nūḥan najiyyan wa ibrāhīma khalīlā

Noah as Your confidant, Abraham as Your intimate friend,

وَمُوسَىٰ كَلِيماً وَعِيسَىٰ رُوحاً

wa mūsā kalīman wa ʿīsā rūḥā

Moses as the one spoken by You, Jesus as Your spirit,

وَمُحَمَّداً حَبِيباً وَعَلِيّاً وَصِيّاً

wa muḥammadan ḥabīban wa ʿaliyyan waṣiyyā

Muhammad as Your most beloved one, and `Ali as Your Prophet’s successor,

صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ اجْمَعِينَ

ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhim ajmaʿīn

may Your blessings be upon all of them,

انْ تَقْضِيَ لِي حَوَائِجِي

an taqḍiya lī ḥawāʾijī

(I beseech You) to grant me my requests,

وَتَعْفُوَ عَمَّا سَلَفَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِي

wa taʿfuwa ʿammā salafa min dhunūbī

overlook my past sins,

وَتَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيَّ بِمَا انْتَ اهْلُهُ

wa tatafaḍḍala ʿalayya bimā anta ahluh

and confer upon me with that which befits You

وَلِجَمِيعِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ لِلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa li-jamīʿi l-muʾminīna wa l-muʾmināti li-d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah

as well as upon all the believing men and women in this world and the world to come.

يَا مُفَرِّجَ هَمِّ ٱلْمَهْمُومِينَ

yā mufarrija hammi l-mahmūmīn

O He Who relieves the grievances of the aggrieved ones!

وَيَا غِيَاثَ ٱلْمَلْهُوفِينَ

wa yā ghiyātha l-malhūfīn

O He Who aids the confused ones!

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

lā ilāha illā ant

There is no god but You.

سُبْحَانَكَ يَا رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

subḥānaka yā rabba l-ʿālamīn

All glory be to You, O Lord of the worlds.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ابِينَا آدَمَ وَامِّنَا حَوَّاءَ…

as-salāmu ʿalā abīnā ādama wa umminā ḥawwāʾ…

Peace be upon our father Adam and our mother Eve…

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ ذُنُوبِي قَدْ كَثُرَتْ

allāhumma inna dhunūbī qad kathurat

O Allah, my sins have been growing

وَلَمْ يَبْقَ لَهَا إِلاَّ رَجَاءُ عَفْوِكَ

wa lam yabqa lahā illā rajāʾu ʿafwik

and nothing can stand for them except the hope in Your pardon

وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ آلَةَ ٱلْحِرْمَانِ إِلَيْكَ

wa qad qaddamtu ālata l-ḥirmāni ilayk

although I have done things due to which I deserve deprivation of Your pardon.

فَانَا اسْالُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ مَا لاَ اسْتَوْجِبُهُ

fa-anā asʾaluka llāhumma mā lā astawjibuh

Therefore, I beseech You, O Allah, for that which I do not deserve

وَاطْلُبُ مِنْكَ مَا لاَ اسْتَحِقُّهُ

wa aṭlubu minka mā lā astaḥiqquh

and I seek from You that which I do not merit.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَبِذُنُوبِي

allāhumma in tuʿadhdhibnī fa-bi-dhunūbī

O Allah, If you chastise me, then this will be on account of my sins

وَلَمْ تَظْلِمْنِي شَيْئاً

wa lam taẓlimnī shayʾā

and You shall never be unjust to me.

وَإِنْ تَغْفِرْ لِي فَخَيْرُ رَاحِمٍ انْتَ يَا سَيِّدِي

wa in taghfir lī fa-khayru rāḥimin anta yā sayyidī

But if You forgive me, then You are already the best of all those who show mercy, O my Master.

اَللَّهُمَّ انْتَ انْتَ وَانَا انَا

allāhumma anta anta wa anā anā

O Allah, You are what You are and I am what I am:

انْتَ ٱلْعَوَّادُ بِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ

anta l-ʿawwādu bi-l-maghfirah

You always return with forgiveness

وَانَا ٱلْعَوَّادُ بِٱلذُّنُوبِ

wa ana l-ʿawwādu bi-dh-dhunūb

and I always return with sinning.

وَانْتَ ٱلْمُتَفَضِّلُ بِٱلْحِلْمِ

wa anta l-mutafaḍḍilu bi-l-ḥilm

You always confer with forbearance

وَانَا ٱلْعَوَّادُ بِٱلْجَهْلِ

wa ana l-ʿawwādu bi-l-jahl

and I always return with impatience.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَإِنِّي اسْالُكَ

allāhumma fa-innī asʾaluk

O Allah, I do beseech You,

يَا كَنْزَ ٱلضُّعَفَاءِ يَا عَظِيمَ ٱلرَّجَاءِ

yā kanza ḍ-ḍuʿafāʾi yā ʿaẓīma r-rajāʾ

O treasure of the weak! O He in Whom great hope is put!

يَا مُنْقِذَ ٱلْغَرْقَىٰ يَا مُنْجِيَ ٱلْهَلْكَىٰ

yā munqidha l-gharqā yā munjiya l-halkā

O rescuer of the drowned! O savior of those about to perish!

يَا مُمِيتَ ٱلاحْيَاءِ يَا مُحْيِيَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

yā mumīta l-aḥyāʾi yā muḥyiya l-mawtā

O He Who cause the alive to die! O He Who causes the dead to live again!

انْتَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

anta llāhu lladhī lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god but You.

انْتَ ٱلَّذِي سَجَدَ لَكَ شُعَاعُ ٱلشَّمْسِ

anta lladhī sajada laka shuʿāʿu sh-shams

It is You before Whom have prostrated the ray of the sun,

وَنُورُ ٱلْقَمَرِ وَظُلْمَةُ ٱللَّيْلِ

wa nūru l-qamari wa ẓulmatu llayl

the moonlight, the murk of night,

وَضَوْءُ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَخَفَقَانُ ٱلطَّيْرِ

wa ḍawʾu n-nahāri wa khafaqānu ṭ-ṭayr

the light of daytime, and the flapping of birds.

فَاسْالُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ يَا عَظِيمُ

fa-asʾaluka llāhumma yā ʿaẓīm

I thus beseech You, O All-great,

بِحَقِّكَ يَا كَرِيمُ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ

bi-ḥaqqika yā karīmu ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihi ṣ-ṣādiqīn

in the name of the duty of Muhammad and his veracious Household towards You, O All-generous,

وَبِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ ٱلصَّادِقِينَ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi muḥammadin wa ālihi ṣ-ṣādiqīna ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards Muhammad and his veracious Household,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ عَلِيٍّ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿalā ʿaliyy

in the name of the duty of `Ali towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi ʿaliyyin ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards `Ali,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ فَاطِمَةَ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿalā fāṭimah

in the name of the duty of Fatimah towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ فَاطِمَةَ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi fāṭimata ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards Fatimah,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحَسَنِ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿala l-ḥasan

in the name of the duty of al-Hasan towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْحَسَنِ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi l-ḥasani ʿalayk

in the name of Your duty towards al-Hasan,

وَبِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa bi-ḥaqqika ʿala l-ḥusayn

in the name of the duty of al-Husayn towards You,

وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqi l-ḥusayni ʿalayk

and in the name of Your duty towards al-Husayn.

فَإِنَّ حُقُوقَهُمْ مِنْ افْضَلِ إِنْعَامِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ

fa-inna ḥuqūqahum min afḍali inʿāmika ʿalayhim

Verily, Your duty towards them is one of the greatest blessings that You conferred upon them.

وَبِٱلشَّانِ ٱلَّذِي لَكَ عِنْدَهُمْ

wa bi-sh-shaʾni lladhī laka ʿindahum

And (I beseech You) in the name of the position that You enjoy with them

وَبِٱلشَّانِ ٱلَّذِي لَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ

wa bi-sh-shaʾni lladhī lahum ʿindak

and in the name of the position that they enjoy with You

صَلِّ يَا رَبِّ عَلَيْهِمْ

ṣalli yā rabbi ʿalayhim

to (please) bless them, O Lord,

صَلاَةً دَائِمَةً مُنْتَهَىٰ رِضَاكَ

ṣalātan dāʾimatan muntahā riḍāk

with blessings that are endless until they attain Your pleasure,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِي بِهِمُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ

wa ghfir lī bihimu dh-dhunūba llatī baynī wa baynak

to forgive me, in their names, the sins that I committed concerning my duties towards You,

وَاتْمِمْ نِعْمَتَكَ عَلَيَّ

wa atmim niʿmataka ʿalayy

to complete Your favors upon me

كَمَا اتْمَمْتَهَا عَلَىٰ آبَائِي مِنْ قَبْلُ

kamā atmamtahā ʿalā ābāʾī min qabl

in the same way as You had completed them upon my forefathers.

يَا كٰهٰيٰعصٰ

yā kāf hā yā ʿayn ṣād

ya kaf ha ya `ayn sad

اَللَّهُمَّ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allāhumma kamā ṣallayta ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

O Allah, just as You have poured blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

فَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي دُعَائِي فِيمَا سَالْتُكَ

fa-stajib lī duʿāʾī fīmā saʾaltuk

(please) respond to my entreaty as regards that which I have asked from You.

يَا سَيِّدِي يَا سَيِّدِي يَا سَيِّدِي

yā sayyidī yā sayyidī yā sayyidī

O my Master! O my Master! O my Master!

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

Bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱغْفِرْ لِي وَٱغْفِرْ لِي…

wa ghfir lī wa ghfir lī…

and forgive me. Please, forgive me…

إِلٰهِي إِنْ كُنْتُ قَدْ عَصَيْتُكَ

ilāhī in kuntu qad ʿaṣaytuk

O Allah, if I have disobeyed you,

فَإِنِّي قَدْ اطَعْتُكَ فِي احَبِّ ٱلاشْيَاءِ إِلَيْكَ

fa-innī qad aṭaʿtuka fī aḥabbi l-ashyāʾi ilayk

I have also obeyed you in the things that You most like.

لَمْ اتَّخِذْ لَكَ وَلَداً

lam attakhidh laka waladā

I have not claimed that You have child

وَلَمْ ادْعُ لَكَ شَرِيكاً

wa lam adʿu laka sharīkā

and I have not associated any one with You.

وَقَدْ عَصَيْتُكَ فِي اشْيَاءَ كَثِيرَةٍ

wa qad ʿaṣaytuka fī ashyāʾa kathīrah

Yet, I have disobeyed You in many things

عَلَىٰ غَيْرِ وَجْهِ ٱلْمُكَابَرَةِ لَكَ

ʿalā ghayri wajhi l-mukābarati lak

on account of neither defiance,

وَلاَ ٱلِٱسْتِكْبَارِ عَنْ عِبَادَتِكَ

wa la l-istikbāri ʿan ʿibādatik

nor my being too arrogant to serve You,

وَلاَ ٱلْجُحُودِ لِرُبُوبِيَّتِكَ

wa la l-juḥūdi li-rubūbiyyatik

nor denial of Your Godhead,

وَلاَ ٱلْخُرُوجِ عَنِ ٱلْعُبُودِيَّةِ لَكَ

wa la l-khurūji ʿani l-ʿubūdiyyati lak

nor mutiny against my servitude to You;

وَلَكِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتُ هَوَايَ

wa lakini ttabaʿtu hawāy

rather, I only followed my lusts

وَازَلَّنِيَ ٱلشَّيْطَانُ بَعْدَ ٱلْحُجَّةِ وَٱلْبَيَانِ

wa azallaniya sh-shayṭānu baʿda l-ḥujjati wa l-bayān

and Satan caused me to slip although You have clear argument against me.

فَإِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَبِذُنُوبِي غَيْرَ ظَالِمٍ انْتَ لِي

fa-in tuʿadhdhibnī fa-bi-dhunūbī ghayra ẓālimin anta lī

Thus, if You chastise me, then it is on account of my sins and You are never unjust to me.

وَإِنْ تَعْفُ عَنِّي وَتَرْحَمْنِي

wa in taʿfu ʿannī wa tarḥamnī

And if You pardon me and have mercy upon me,

فَبِجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ

fa-bi-jūdika wa karamika yā karīm

then this is out of Your magnanimity and generosity, O All-generous!

غَدَوْتُ بِحَوْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقُوَّتِهِ

ghadawtu bi-ḥawli llāhi wa quwwatih

I begin this day with the might and power of Allah.

غَدَوْتُ بِغَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ

ghadawtu bi-ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah

I do not begin it with my might or power;

وَلَكِنْ بِحَوْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقُوَّتِهِ

wa lakin bi-ḥawli llāhi wa quwwatih

rather, with Allah’s might and power.

يَا رَبِّ اسْالُكَ بَرَكَةَ هٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ وَبَرَكَةَ اهْلِهِ

yā rabbi asʾaluka barakata hādha l-bayti wa barakata ahlih

O my Lord, I beseech You for the blessing of this house and the blessing of its people

وَاسْالُكَ انْ تَرْزُقَنِي رِزْقاً حَلاَلاً طَيِّباً

wa asʾaluka an tarzuqanī rizqan ḥalālan ṭayyibā

and I pray You to grant me sustenance from Your sustenance; sustenance that is legal and pleasant,

تَسُوقُهُ إِلَيَّ بِحَوْلِكَ وَقُوَّتِكَ

tasūquhu ilayya bi-ḥawlika wa quwwatik

and that You bring it to me by Your might and Power,

وَانَا خَائِضٌ فِي عَافِيَتِكَ

wa anā khāʾiḍun fī ʿāfiyatik

while I experience good health.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱقْضِ حَاجَتِي يَا اللَّهُ

wa qḍi ḥājatī yā allāh

and grant my request. O Allah!

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَخِيبُ سَائِلُهُ

yā man lā yakhību sāʾiluh

O He Whose beseecher is never disappointed

وَلاَ يَنْفَدُ نَائِلُهُ

wa lā yanfadu nāʾiluh

and Whose gifts are inexhaustible!

يَا قَاضِيَ ٱلْحَاجَاتِ يَا مُجِيبَ ٱلدَّعَوَاتِ

yā qāḍiya l-ḥājāti yā mujība d-daʿawāt

O Settler of needs! O Responding to the prayers!

يَا رَبَّ ٱلارَضِينَ وَٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ

yā rabba l-araḍīna wa s-samāwāt

O Lord of the earth layers and the heavens!

يَا كَاشِفَ ٱلْكُرُبَاتِ يَا وَاسِعَ ٱلْعَطِيَّاتِ

yā kāshifa l-kurubāti yā wāsiʿa l-ʿaṭiyyāt

O Reliever of agonies! O expansive Donor of gifts!

يَا دَافِعَ ٱلنَّقِمَاتِ

yā dāfiʿa n-naqimāt

O Savior from hardships!

يَا مُبَدِّلَ ٱلسَّيِّئَاتِ حَسَنَاتٍ

yā mubaddila s-sayyiʾāti ḥasanāt

O He Who changes the punishments of wrongdoings into rewards for good deeds!

عُدْ عَلَيَّ بِطَوْلِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ وَإِحْسَانِكَ

ʿud ʿalayya bi-ṭawlika wa faḍlika wa iḥsānik

(Please do) confer upon me with Your bounty, favor, and kindness,

وَٱسْتَجِبْ دُعَائِي فِيمَا سَالْتُكَ وَطَلَبْتُ مِنْكَ

wa stajib duʿāʾī fīmā saʾaltuka wa ṭalabtu mink

and (please do) respond to my prayers regarding that which I have besought and asked from You,

بِحَقِّ نَبِيِّكَ وَوَصِيِّكَ وَاوْلِيَائِكَ ٱلصَّالِحِينَ

bi-ḥaqqi nabiyyika wa waṣiyyika wa awliyāʾika ṣ-ṣāliḥīn

in the name of Your Prophet, Your Prophet’s successor, and Your righteous saints.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي حَلَلْتُ بِسَاحَتِكَ

allāhumma innī ḥalaltu bi-sāḥatik

O Allah, I am residing in Your courtyard,

لِعِلْمِي بِوَحْدَانِيَّتِكَ وَصَمَدَانِيَّتِكَ

li-ʿilmī bi-waḥdāniyyatika wa ṣamadāniyyatik

because I have full recognition of Your Oneness and Independence

وَانَّهُ لاَ قَادِرَ عَلَىٰ قَضَاءِ حَاجَتِي غَيْرُكَ

wa annahu lā qādira ʿalā qaḍāʾi ḥājatī ghayruk

and I know for sure that none can ever settle my need save You.

وَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ يَا رَبَّ

wa qad ʿalimtu yā rabb

I also admit, O my Lord,

انَّهُ كُلَّمَا شَاهَدْتُ نِعْمَتَكَ عَلَيَّ

annahu kullamā shāhadtu niʿmataka ʿalayy

that the more I feel Your favors upon me,

ٱشْتَدَّتْ فَاقَتِي إِلَيْكَ

ishtaddat fāqatī ilayk

the more I need You.

وَقَدْ طَرَقَنِي يَا رَبِّ مِنْ مُهِمِّ امْرِي مَا قَدْ عَرَفْتَهُ

wa qad ṭaraqanī yā rabbi min muhimmi amrī mā qad ʿaraftah

O my Lord, I have been inflicted with aggrieving matters that You know,

لاِنَّكَ عَالِمٌ غَيْرُ مُعَلَّمٍ

li-annaka ʿālimun ghayru muʿallam

because You are All-knowing and You do not want information.

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱلِٱسْمِ ٱلَّذِي وَضَعْتَهُ عَلَىٰ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ فَٱنْشَقَّتْ

wa asʾaluka bi-l-ismi lladhī waḍaʿtahu ʿala s-samāwāti fa-nshaqqat

I thus beseech You in the Name that when You put on the heavens, they rent asunder,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلارَضِينَ فَٱنْبَسَطَتْ

wa ʿala l-araḍīna fa-nbasaṭat

when You put on the earth, it spread out,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلنُّجُومِ فَٱنْتَشَرَتْ

wa ʿala n-nujūmi fa-ntasharat

when You put on the stars, they diffused,

وَعَلَىٰ ٱلْجِبَالِ فَٱسْتَقَرَّتْ

wa ʿala l-jibāli fa-staqarrat

and when You put on the mountains, they settled down;

وَاسْالُكَ بِٱلِٱسْمِ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلْتَهُ عِنْدَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعِنْدَ عَلِيٍّ

wa asʾaluka bi-l-ismi lladhī jaʿaltahu ʿinda muḥammadin wa ʿinda ʿaliyy

and I beseech You in the Name that You put with Muhammad, with `Ali,

وَعِنْدَ ٱلْحَسَنِ وَعِنْدَ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ

wa ʿinda l-ḥasani wa ʿinda l-ḥusayn

with al-Hasan, with al-Husayn,

وَعِنْدَ ٱلائِمَّةِ كُلِّهِمْ

wa ʿinda l-aʾimmati kullihim

and with all the Imams,

صَلَوَاتُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ اجْمَعِينَ

ṣalawātu llāhi ʿalayhim ajmaʿīn

blessings be upon them all,

انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

to bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَانْ تَقْضِيَ لِي يَا رَبِّ حَاجَتِي

wa an taqḍiya lī yā rabbi ḥājatī

to grant me all my requests, O my Lord,

وَتُيَسِّرَ عَسِيرَهَا

wa tuyassira ʿasīrahā

to make easy the difficult ones of them,

وَتَكْفِيَنِي مُهِمَّهَا

wa takfiyanī muhimmahā

to relieve me from the grievances of them,

وَتَفْتَحَ لِي قُفْلَهَا

wa taftaḥa lī quflahā

and to unlock for me their locks.

فَإِنْ فَعَلْتَ ذٰلِكَ فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ

fa-in faʿalta dhālika fa-laka l-ḥamd

If You do that for me, then all praise be to You,

وَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ

wa in lam tafʿal fa-laka l-ḥamd

and if You do not, still all praise be to You,

غَيْرَ جَائِرٍ فِي حُكْمِكَ

ghayra jāʾirin fī ḥukmik

for You never decide wrongly

وَلاَ حَائِفٍ فِي عَدْلِكَ

wa lā ḥāʾifin fī ʿadlik

and You never exceed justice.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ امَرْتَ بِٱلدُّعَاءِ

allāhumma innaka amarta bi-d-duʿāʾ

O Allah, You have ordered us to pray You

وَتَكَفَّلْتَ بِٱلإِجَابَةِ

wa takaffalta bi-l-ijābah

and You have thus promised of response.

وَانَا ادْعُوكَ كَمَا امَرْتَنِي

wa anā adʿūka kamā amartanī

Hence, I am praying You as You have ordered;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

so, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱسْتَجِبْ لِي كَمَا وَعَدْتَنِي

wa stajib lī kamā waʿadtanī

and respond to me as You have promised,

يَا كَرِيمُ

yā karīm

O All-generous!

وَيَا مُذِلَّ كُلِّ عَزِيزٍ

wa yā mudhilla kulli ʿazīz

O He Who (is able to) humiliate any arrogant one!

تَعْلَمُ كُرْبَتِي

taʿlamu kurbatī

You know my agony;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālih

so, (please) bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَفَرِّجْ عَنِّي يَا كَرِيمُ

wa farrij ʿannī yā karīm

and relieve me, O All-generous!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ يَا مَنْ لاَ تَرَاهُ ٱلْعُيُونُ

allāhumma innī asʾaluka yā man lā tarāhu l-ʿuyūn

O Allah, I beseech You, O He Whom cannot be seen by eyes,

وَلاَ تُحِيطُ بِهِ ٱلظُّنُونُ

wa lā tuḥīṭu bihi ẓ-ẓunūn

Whom cannot be comprehended by visions,

وَلاَ يَصِفُهُ ٱلْوَاصِفُونَ

wa lā yaṣifuhu l-wāṣifūn

Whom cannot be described by all those who describe Him,

وَلاَ تُغَيِّرُهُ ٱلْحَوَادِثُ

wa lā tughayyiruhu l-ḥawādith

Whom cannot be affected by events,

وَلاَ تُفْنِيهِ ٱلدُّهُورُ

wa lā tufnīhi d-duhūr

and Whom cannot be obliterated due to passage of ages!

تَعْلَمُ مَثَاقِيلَ ٱلْجِبَالِ

taʿlamu mathāqīla l-jibāl

You know the measures of mountains,

وَمَكَايِيلَ ٱلْبِحَارِ

wa makāyīla l-biḥār

the amounts (of water) of oceans,

وَوَرَقَ ٱلاشْجَارِ

wa waraqa l-ashjār

the number of the trees’ leaves,

وَرَمْلَ ٱلْقِفَارِ

wa ramla l-qifār

the sands of deserts,

وَمَا اضَاءَتْ بِهِ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ

wa mā aḍāʾat bihi sh-shamsu wa l-qamar

whatever is under the sunlight and moonlight,

وَاظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِ ٱللَّيْلُ

wa aẓlama ʿalayhi llayl

whatever is under darkness of night,

وَوَضَحَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّهَارُ

wa waḍaḥa ʿalayhi n-nahār

and whatever is shown by daylight.

وَلاَ تُوَارِي مِنْكَ سَمَاءٌ سَمَاءً

wa lā tuwārī minka samāʾun samāʾā

No sky can screen another sky from You,

وَلاَ ارْضٌ ارْضاً

wa lā arḍun arḍā

no layer of the earth can screen another layer from You,

وَلاَ جَبَلٌ مَا فِي اصْلِهِ

wa lā jabalun mā fī aṣlih

no mountain can screen its other parts from You,

وَلاَ بَحْرٌ مَا فِي قَعْرِهِ

wa lā baḥrun mā fī qaʿrih

and no ocean can screen its depths from You.

اسْالُكَ انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

asʾaluka an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

I thus beseech You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَانْ تَجْعَلَ خَيْرَ امْرِي آخِرَهُ

wa an tajʿala khayra amrī ākhirah

to cause the best of my affair to be the conclusion of it,

وَخَيْرَ اعْمَالِي خَوَاتِيمَهَا

wa khayra aʿmālī khawātīmahā

to cause the best of my deeds to be the last of them,

وَخَيْرَ ايَّامِي يَوْمَ الْقَاكَ

wa khayra ayyāmī yawma alqāk

and to cause the best of my days to be the day when I meet You,

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

for You verily have power over all things.

اَللَّهُمَّ مَنْ ارَادَنِي بِسُوءٍ فَارِدْهُ

allāhumma man arādanī bi-sūʾin fa-arid-hu

O Allah, (please do) deter all those who intend evil to me,

وَمَنْ كَادَنِي فَكِدْهُ

wa man kādanī fa-kid-hu

encumber all those who plan to do evil to me,

وَمَنْ بَغَانِي بِهَلَكَةٍ فَاهْلِكْهُ

wa man baghānī bi-halakatin fa-ahlik-hu

terminate all those who is set to terminate me,

وَٱكْفِنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي مِمَّنْ دَخَلَ هَمُّهُ عَلَيَّ

wa kfinī mā ahammanī mimman dakhala hammuhu ʿalayy

and save me from all that which aggrieves me at the hands of those who intend grief to me.

اَللَّهُمَّ ادْخِلْنِي فِي دِرْعِكَ ٱلْحَصِينَةِ

allāhumma adkhilnī fī dirʿika l-ḥaṣīnah

O Allah, (please do) include me with Your impervious armor

وَٱسْتُرْنِي بِسِتْرِكَ ٱلْوَاقِي

wa sturnī bi-sitrika l-wāqī

and cover me with Your protective shield.

يَا مَنْ يَكْفِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

yā man yakfī min kulli shayʾ

O He Who saves from all things

وَلاَ يَكْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ

wa lā yakfī minhu shayʾ

and nothing can ever save from You,

إِكْفِنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي مِنْ امْرِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

ikfinī mā ahammanī min amri d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah

(please) relieve me from whatever has aggrieved me from the affairs of this world and the world to come

وَصَدِّقْ قَوْلِي وَفِعْلِي

wa ṣaddiq qawlī wa fiʿlī

and cause my words to be corresponding with my deeds.

يَا شَفِيقُ يَا رَفِيقُ

yā shafīqu yā rafīq

O All-sympathetic! O All-kind!

فَرِّجْ عَنِّيَ ٱلْمَضِيقَ

farrij ʿanniya l-maḍīq

(please) relieve me from depression

وَلاَ تُحَمِّلْنِي مَا لاَ اطِيقُ

wa lā tuḥammilnī mā lā uṭīq

and do not burden on me that which I cannot stand.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱحْرُسْنِي بِعَيْنِكَ ٱلَّتِي لاَ تَنَامُ

allāhumma ḥrusnī bi-ʿaynika llatī lā tanām

O Allah, (please) guard me with Your Eye that never sleeps

وَٱرْحَمْنِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيَّ

wa rḥamnī bi-qudratika ʿalayy

and have mercy upon me in the name of Your power over me.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

يَا عَلِيُّ يَا عَظِيمُ

yā ʿaliyyu yā ʿaẓīm

O All-high! O All-great!

انْتَ عَالِمٌ بِحَاجَتِي

anta ʿālimun bi-ḥājatī

You know what I need

وَعَلَىٰ قَضَائِهَا قَدِيرٌ

wa ʿalā qaḍāʾihā qadīr

and You have the power to grant it to me,

وَهِيَ لَدَيْكَ يَسِيرٌ

wa hiya ladayka yasīr

which is an easy thing to be done by You

وَانَا إِلَيْكَ فَقِيرٌ

wa anā ilayka faqīr

and I do want You;

فَمُنَّ بِهَا عَلَيَّ يَا كَرِيمُ

fa-munna bihā ʿalayya yā karīm

so, (please) do me the favor of settling my need, O All-merciful!

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

Verily, You have power over all things.

إِلٰهِي قَدْ عَلِمْتَ حَوَائِجِي

ilāhī qad ʿalimta ḥawāʾijī

O my God, You have known my needs;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَٱقْضِهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammadin wa qḍihā

so, please send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad and settle my needs.

وَقَدْ احْصَيْتَ ذُنُوبِي

wa qad aḥṣayta dhunūbī

You have accounted all my sins;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ وَٱغْفِرْهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihi wa ghfirhā

so, please send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household and forgive them,

يَا كَرِيمُ

yā karīm

O All-generous!

إِنْ كُنْتُ بِئْسَ ٱلْعَبْدُ

in kuntu biʾsa l-ʿabd

If I am the worst servant (of You),

فَانْتَ نِعْمَ ٱلرَّبُّ

fa-anta niʿma r-rabb

then You are the All-excellent Lord;

إِفْعَلْ بِي مَا انْتَ اهْلُهُ

ifʿal bī mā anta ahluh

so, please do to me that which befits You

وَلاَ تَفْعَلْ بِي مَا انَا اهْلُهُ

wa lā tafʿal bī mā anā ahluh

and do not do to me that which I deserve,

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ عَظُمَ ٱلذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ

allāhumma in ʿaẓuma dh-dhanbu min ʿabdik

O Allah, if Your servant’s sin has been very flagrant,

فَلْيَحْسُنِ ٱلْعَفْوُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ

fa-l-yaḥsuni l-ʿafwu min ʿindik

then, let Your pardon be very excellent,

يَا كَرِيمُ

yā karīm

O All-generous!

إِرْحَمْ مَنْ اسَاءَ وَٱقْتَرَفَ

irḥam man asāʾa wa qtaraf

(Please) have mercy upon him who had misbehaved and committed sins,

وَٱسْتَكَانَ وَٱعْتَرَفَ

wa stakāna wa ʿtaraf

but he then submitted and confessed.

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ وَٱغْفِرْهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihi wa ghfirhā

So, please send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household and forgive them,

يَا كَرِيمُ…

yā karīm…

O All-generous…

يَا مَنْ اظْهَرَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ

yā man aẓhara l-jamīl

O He Who makes known what is good and beautiful

وَسَتَرَ ٱلْقَبِيحَ

wa satara l-qabīḥ

and covers up ugliness and defects!

يَا مَنْ لَمْ يُؤْاخِذْ بِٱلْجَرِيرَةِ

yā man lam yuʾākhidh bi-l-jarīrah

O He Who does not demand submission under duress

وَلَمْ يَهْتِكِ ٱلسِّتْرَ وَٱلسَّرِيرَةَ

wa lam yahtiki s-sitra wa s-sarīrah

and has not exposed the hidden and the unknown!

يَا عَظِيمَ ٱلْعَفْوِ

yā ʿaẓīma l-ʿafw

O He Who is the greatest pardoner!

يَا حَسَنَ ٱلتَّجَاوُزِ

yā ḥasana t-tajāwuz

O He Who is the subtle indulgent!

يَا وَاسِعَ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ

yā wāsiʿa l-maghfirah

O He Whose forgiveness is limitless!

يَا بَاسِطَ ٱلْيَدَيْنِ بِٱلرَّحْمَةِ

yā bāsiṭa l-yadayni bi-r-raḥmah

O He Whose Hands are expansive with mercy!

يَا صَاحِبَ كُلِّ نَجْوَىٰ

yā ṣāḥiba kulli najwā

O He Who is partner in every confidential speech!

يَا مُنْتَهَىٰ كُلِّ شَكْوَىٰ

yā muntahā kulli shakwā

O He to Whom all complaints reach!

يَا كَرِيمَ ٱلصَّفْحِ

yā karīma ṣ-ṣafḥ

O He Who is generous in clemency!

يَا عَظِيمَ ٱلرَّجَاءِ

yā ʿaẓīma r-rajāʾ

O He in Whom all hopes are put!

يَا سَيِّدِي صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

yā sayyidī ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

O my Master, send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَٱفْعَلْ بِي مَا انْتَ اهْلُهُ يَا كَرِيمُ

wa fʿal bī mā anta ahluhu yā karīm

and do to me that which befits You, O All-generous!

يَا صَانِعَ كُلِّ مَصْنُوعٍ

yā ṣāniʿa kulli maṣnūʿ

O He Who Makes all things made!

وَيَا جَابِرَ كُلِّ كَسِيرٍ

wa yā jābira kulli kasīr

O He Who sets all things broken!

وَيَا حَاضِرَ كُلِّ مَلَإٍ

wa yā ḥāḍira kulli malaʾ

O He Who is present in all sessions held!

وَيَا شَاهِدَ كُلِّ نَجْوَىٰ

wa yā shāhida kulli najwā

O He Who witnesses all confidential meetings!

وَيَا عَالِمَ كُلِّ خَفِيِّةٍ

wa yā ʿālima kulli khafiyyah

O He Who knows about all things hidden!

وَيَا شَاهِداً غَيْرَ غَائِبٍ

wa yā shāhidan ghayra ghāʾib

O He Who is always nearby and is never absent!

وَيَا غَالِباً غَيْرَ مَغْلُوبٍ

wa yā ghāliban ghayra maghlūb

O He Who always overcomes and is never defeated!

وَيَا قَرِيباً غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ

wa yā qarīban ghayra baʿīd

O He Who is always nigh and is never far off!

وَيَا مُؤْنِسَ كُلِّ وَحِيدٍ

wa yā muʾnisa kulli waḥīd

O He Who entertains each and every lonely one!

وَيَا حَيّاً حِينَ لاَ حَيَّ غَيْرُهُ

wa yā ḥayyan ḥīna lā ḥayya ghayruh

O He Who existed when there was no other being exists!

يَا مُحْيِيَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَمُمِيتَ ٱلاحْيَاءِ

yā muḥyiya l-mawtā wa mumīta l-aḥyāʾ

O He Who restores lives to the dead and causes the alive to die!

ٱلْقَائِمُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ

al-qāʾimu ʿalā kulli nafsin bimā kasabat

O He Who watches every soul as to what it earns!

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

lā ilāha illā ant

There is no god save You.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ…
