The amaal at Masjid Sehla

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِٱللَّهِ

bismi llāhi wa bi-llāh

In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust),

وَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ وَإِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ

wa mina llāhi wa ilā llāh

from Allah (I derive power), to Allah (I refer all my affairs),

وَمَا شَاءَ ٱللَّهُ

wa mā shāʾa llāh

only that which Allah wills shall come to pass,

وَخَيْرُ ٱلاسْمَاءِ لِلَّهِ

wa khayru l-asmāʾi li-llāh

and the most excellent Names are Allah’s.

تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ

tawakkaltu ʿalā llāh

I rely upon Allah.

وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi l-ʿaliyyi l-ʿaẓīm

There is neither might nor power except with Allah the All-high and All-great.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْنِي مِنْ عُمَّارِ مَسَاجِدِكَ وَبُيُوتِكَ

allāhumma jʿalnī min ʿummāri masājidika wa buyūtik

O Allah, (please) make me of those who construct Your mosques and houses.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allāhumma innī atawajjahu ilayka bi-muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

O Allah, I turn my face toward You, asking You in the name of Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَاقَدِّمُهُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَوَائِجِي

wa aqaddimuhum bayna yaday ḥawāʾijī

and I present them before my requests;

فَٱجْعَلْنِي ٱللَّهُمَّ بِهِمْ عِنْدَكَ وَجِيهاً

fa-jʿalnī llāhumma bihim ʿindaka wajīhā

so, O Allah, (please) make me worthy of Your regard in their names,

فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ وَمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

fi d-dunyā wa l-ākhirati wa mina l-muqarrabīn

in this world and the Hereafter and make me of those who are made near to You.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْ صَلاَتِي بِهِمْ مَقْبُولَةً

allāhumma jʿal ṣalātī bihim maqbūlah

O Allah, (please) accept my prayers in their names,

وَذَنْبِي بِهِمْ مَغْفُوراً

wa dhanbī bihim maghfūrā

forgive my sins in their names,

وَرِزْقِي بِهِمْ مَبْسُوطاً

wa rizqī bihim mabsūṭā

expand sustenance for me in their names,

وَدُعَائِي بِهِمْ مُسْتَجَاباً

wa duʿāʾī bihim mustajābā

respond to my supplications in their names,

وَحَوَائِجِي بِهِمْ مَقْضِيَّةً

wa ḥawāʾijī bihim maqḍiyyah

grant me all of my requests in their names,

وَٱنْظُرْ إِلَيَّ بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ

wa nẓur ilayya bi-wajhika l-karīm

and look at me with Your All-noble Face;

نَظْرَةً رَحِيمَةً اسْتَوْجِبُ بِهَا ٱلْكَرَامَةَ عِنْدَكَ

naẓratan raḥīmatan astawjibu biha l-karāmata ʿindak

such a kind look due to which I shall attain Your honor,

ثُمَّ لاَ تَصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي ابَداً

thumma lā taṣrifhu ʿannī abadā

and (please) never turn Your Face away from me

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

bi-raḥmatika yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

in the name of Your mercy, O most merciful of all those who show mercy.

يَا مُقَلِّبَ ٱلْقُلُوبِ وَٱلابْصَارِ

yā muqalliba l-qulūbi wa l-abṣār

O He Who changes hearts and sights,

ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَىٰ دِينِكَ

thabbit qalbī ʿalā dīnik

(please do) make my heart permanently steady in following Your religion

وَدِينِ نَبِيِّكَ وَوَلِيِّكَ

wa dīni nabiyyika wa waliyyik

and the religion of Your Prophet and Intimate servant,

وَلاَ تُزِغْ قَلْبِي بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنِي

wa lā tuzigh qalbī baʿda idh hadaytanī

do not cause my heart to deviate after You have guided me (to the true path),

وَهَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً

wa hab lī min ladunka raḥmah

and grant me mercy from You,

إِنَّكَ انْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

innaka anta l-wahhāb

for You are the most liberal Giver.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِلَيْكَ تَوَجَّهْتُ

allāhumma ilayka tawajjaht

O Allah, I am turning my face towards You,

وَمَرْضَاتَكَ طَلَبْتُ

wa marḍātaka ṭalabt

seeking Your pleasure,

وَثَوَابَكَ ٱبْتَغَيْتُ

wa thawābaka btaghayt

desiring for Your reward,

وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ

wa bika āmant

having full faith in You,

وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ

wa ʿalayka tawakkalt

and putting all trust in You.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَاقْبِلْ بِوَجْهِكَ إِلَيَّ

allāhumma fa-aqbil bi-wajhika ilayy

So, O Allah, meet me with Your face

وَاقْبِلْ بِوَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ

wa aqbil bi-wajhī ilayk

and allow me to meet You with my face.

سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

subḥāna llāhi wa l-ḥamdu li-llāh

All glory be to Allah. All praise be to Allah.

وَلاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ وَٱللَّهُ اكْبَرُ

wa lā ilāha illā llāhu wa llāhu akbar

there is no god save Allah. Allah is the Most Great.

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَيْتَنِي

allāhumma laka l-ḥamdu ʿalā mā hadaytanī

O Allah, all praise be to You for You have guided me.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ مَا فَضَّلْتَنِي

wa laka l-ḥamdu ʿalā mā faḍḍaltanī

All praise be to You for You have favored me.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ مَا شَرَّفْتَنِي

wa laka l-ḥamdu ʿalā mā sharraftanī

All praise be to You for You have honored me.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ بَلاَءٍ حَسَنٍ ٱبْتَلَيْتَنِي

wa laka l-ḥamdu ʿalā kulli balāʾin ḥasanin ibtalaytanī

All praise be to You for all of the good turns that You have bestowed upon me.

اَللَّهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ صَلاَتِي وَدُعَائِي

allāhumma taqabbal ṣalātī wa duʿāʾī

O Allah, (please do) accept my prayer and supplication,

وَطَهِّرْ قَلْبِي وَٱشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ

wa ṭahhir qalbī wa shraḥ lī ṣadrī wa tub ʿalayy

purify my heart, expand my breast for me, and accept my repentance.

إِنَّكَ انْتَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

innaka anta t-tawwābu r-raḥīm

You are indeed the Oft-returning to mercy and the All-merciful.

انْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

anta llāhu lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god save You.

مُبْدِئُ ٱلْخَلْقِ وَمُعِيدُهُمْ

mubdiʾu l-khalqi wa muʿīduhum

You are the Beginner of the process of creation and the Repeater of it.

وَانْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

wa anta llāhu lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god save You.

خَالِقُ ٱلْخَلْقِ وَرَازِقُهُمْ

khāliqu l-khalqi wa rāziquhum

You are the Creator of creatures and the Sustainer of them.

وَانْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

wa anta llāhu lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god save You.

ٱلْقَابِضُ ٱلْبَاسِطُ

al-qābiḍu l-bāsiṭ

You are the Straightener and the Expander.

وَانْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

wa anta llāhu lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god save You.

مُدَبِّرُ ٱلامُورِ

mudabbiru l-amūr

You are the Manager of all affairs

وَبَاعِثُ مَنْ فِي ٱلْقُبُورِ

wa bāʿithu man fi l-qubūr

and the Resurrector of those who are in graves.

انْتَ وَارِثُ ٱلارْضِ وَمَنْ عَلَيْهَا

anta wārithu l-arḍi wa man ʿalayhā

You are the Inheritor of the earth & whatever/whoever is on it.

اسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلْمَخْزُونِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ

asʾaluka bi-smika l-makhzūni l-maknūn

I beseech You by Your Name: the concealed, the obscured,

ٱلْحَيِّ ٱلْقَيُّومِ

al-ḥayyi l-qayyūm

the ever-living, and the self-subsistent.

وَانْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

wa anta llāhu lā ilāha illā ant

You are Allah; there is no god save You.

عَالِمُ ٱلسِّرِّ وَاخْفَىٰ

ʿālimu s-sirri wa akhfā

You are the Knower of secrets and what is yet more hidden.

اسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ ٱلَّذِي إِذَا دُعِيتَ بِهِ اجَبْتَ

asʾaluka bi-smika lladhī idhā duʿīta bihi ajabt

I beseech You by Your Name: the Name that You respond to him who beseeches You by it

وَإِذَا سُئِلْتَ بِهِ اعْطَيْتَ

wa idhā suʾilta bihi aʿṭayt

and the Name that You give him who asks You by it.

وَاسْالُكَ بِحَقِّكَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاهْلِ بَيْتِهِ

wa asʾaluka bi-ḥaqqika ʿalā muḥammadin wa ahli baytih

And I beseech You in the name of the duty of Muhammad and his Household towards You

وَبِحَقِّهِمُ ٱلَّذِي اوْجَبْتَهُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِكَ

wa bi-ḥaqqihimu lladhī awjabtahu ʿalā nafsik

and in the name of the duty that You have made incumbent upon Yourself towards them

انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَانْ تَقْضِيَ لِي حَاجَتِي

wa an taqḍiya lī ḥājatī

and to grant me my requests

ٱلسَّاعَةَ ٱلسَّاعَةَ

as-sāʿata s-sāʿah

at this very hour! At this very hour!

يَا سَامِعَ ٱلدُّعَاءِ

yā sāmiʿa d-duʿāʾ

O Hearer of prayers!

يَا سَيِّدَاهُ يَا مَوْلاَهُ يَا غِيَاثَاهُ

yā sayyidāhu yā mawlāhu yā ghiyāthāh

O my Master! O my Lord! O my Aide!

اسْالُكَ بِكُلِّ ٱسْمٍ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ

asʾaluka bi-kulli smin sammayta bihi nafsak

I beseech You by all the Names that You used for Yourself

اوِ ٱسْتَاثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ

awi staʾtharta bihi fī ʿilmi l-ghaybi ʿindak

and the Names that You take exclusively for Yourself in the Unseen Knowledge of You

انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

وَانْ تُعَجِّلَ فَرَجَنَا ٱلسَّاعَةَ

wa an tuʿajjila farajana s-sāʿah

and to expedite our relief to this very hour.

يَا مُقَلِّبَ ٱلْقُلُوبِ وَٱلابْصَارِ

yā muqalliba l-qulūbi wa l-abṣār

O He Who changes hearts and sights!

يَا سَمِيعَ ٱلدُّعَاءِ

yā samīʿa d-duʿāʾ

O Hearer of prayers!

اَللَّهُمَّ بِحَقِّ هٰذِهِ ٱلْبُقْعَةِ ٱلشَّرِيفَةِ

allāhumma bi-ḥaqqi hādhihi l-buqʿati sh-sharīfah

O Allah, (I beseech You) in the name of this holy area

وَبِحَقِّ مَنْ تَعَبَّدَ لَكَ فِيهَا

wa bi-ḥaqqi man taʿabbada laka fīhā

and in the name of him who used to worship You here.

قَدْ عَلِمْتَ حَوَائِجِي

qad ʿalimta ḥawāʾijī

You know my needs;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَٱقْضِهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammadin wa qḍihā

so, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad and settle them for me.

وَقَدْ احْصَيْتَ ذُنُوبِي

wa qad aḥṣayta dhunūbī

You have accounted my sins;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَٱغْفِرْهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammadin wa ghfirhā

so, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad and forgive them for me.

اَللَّهُمَّ احْيِنِي مَا إِذَا كَانَتِ ٱلْحَيَاةُ خَيْراً لِي

allāhumma aḥyinī mā idhā kānati l-ḥayātu khayran lī

O Allah, (please do) keep me alive as long as life is better for me,

وَامِتْنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ ٱلْوَفَاةُ خَيْراً لِي

wa amitnī idhā kānati l-wafātu khayran lī

cause me to die if death is better for me,

عَلَىٰ مُوَالاَةِ اوْلِيَائِكَ وَمُعَادَاةِ اعْدَائِكَ

ʿalā muwālāti awliyāʾika wa muʿādāti aʿdāʾik

cause me to die bearing loyalty to Your intimate servants and antagonism against Your enemies,

وَٱفْعَلْ بِي مَا انْتَ اهْلُهُ

wa fʿal bī mā anta ahluh

and do to me that which befits You,

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي صَلَّيْتُ هٰذِهِ ٱلصَّلاَةَ ٱبْتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاتِكَ

allāhumma innī ṣallaytu hādhihi ṣ-ṣalāta btighāʾa marḍātik

O Allah, I have offered this prayer seeking Your pleasure,

وَطَلَبَ نَائِلِكَ

wa ṭalaba nāʾilik

wishing for Your gift,

وَرَجَاءَ رِفْدِكَ وَجَوَائِزِكَ

wa rajāʾa rifdika wa jawāʾizik

and hoping for Your prizes and rewards;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

so, (please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّي بِاحْسَنِ قَبُولٍ

wa taqabbalhā minnī bi-aḥsani qabūl

accept it from me with the best acceptance,

وَبَلِّغْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ ٱلْمَامُولَ

wa ballighnī bi-raḥmatika l-maʾmūl

make me gain what I hope, out of Your mercy,

وَٱفْعَلْ بِي مَا انْتَ اهْلُهُ

wa fʿal bī mā anta ahluh

and do to me that which befits You,

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَتِ ٱلذُّنُوبُ وَٱلْخَطَايَا

allāhumma in kānati dh-dhunūbu wa l-khaṭāyā

O Allah, if my sins and faults

قَدْ اخْلَقَتْ وَجْهِي عِنْدَكَ

qad akhlaqat wajhī ʿindak

have caused my face to be tattered in Your view;

فَلَمْ تَرْفَعْ لِي إِلَيْكَ صَوْتاً

fa-lam tarfaʿ lī ilayka ṣawtā

therefore, they impeded my voice from reaching You

وَلَمْ تَسْتَجِبْ لِي دَعْوَةً

wa lam tastajib lī daʿwah

and You thus have not responded to any of my prayers,

فَإِنِّي اسْالُكَ بِكَ يَا اَللَّهُ

fa-innī asʾaluka bika yā allāh

I then beseech You in Your Name, O Allah,

فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِثْلَكَ احَدٌ

fa-innahu laysa mithlaka aḥad

for there is verily nothing like You,

وَاتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ

wa atawassalu ilayka bi-muḥammadin wa ālih

I seek the intercession of Muhammad and his Household to You,

وَاسْالُكَ انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

wa asʾaluka an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

and I beseech You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَانْ تُقْبِلَ إِلَيَّ بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ

wa an tuqbila ilayya bi-wajhika l-karīm

to come to me with Your Noble Face,

وَتُقْبِلَ بِوَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ

wa tuqbila bi-wajhī ilayk

to accept my turning my face towards You,

وَلاَ تُخَيِّبْنِي حِينَ ادْعُوكَ

wa lā tukhayyibnī ḥīna adʿūk

not to let me down when I supplicate You,

وَلاَ تَحْرِمْنِي حِينَ ارْجُوكَ

wa lā taḥrimnī ḥīna arjūk

and not to deprive me (of Your response) when I please You.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ بِٱسْمِكَ يَا اَللَّهُ

allāhumma innī asʾaluka bi-smika yā allāh

O Allah, I do beseech You by Your Name, O Allah,

انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَانْ تَجْعَلَ خَيْرَ عُمْرِي آخِرَهُ

wa an tajʿala khayra ʿumrī ākhirah

to cause the best of my lifetime to be the last of it,

وَخَيْرَ اعْمَالِي خَوَاتِيمَهَا

wa khayra aʿmālī khawātīmahā

the best of my deeds to be the last of them,

وَخَيْرَ ايَّامِي يَوْمَ الْقَاكَ فِيهِ

wa khayra ayyāmī yawma alqāka fīh

and the best of my days to be the day on which I meet You.

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

Verily, You have power over all things.

اَللَّهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ دُعَائِي

allāhumma taqabbal duʿāʾī

O Allah, (please) accept my prayer

وَٱسْمَعْ نَجْوَايَ

wa smaʿ najwāy

and listen to my confidential speech (with You).

يَا عَلِيُّ يَا عَظِيمُ

yā ʿaliyyu yā ʿaẓīm

O All-high! O All-great!

يَا قَادِرُ يَا قَاهِرُ

yā qādiru yā qāhir

O All-powerful! O All-prevalent!

يَا حَيّاً لاَ يَمُوتُ

yā ḥayyan lā yamūt

O He Who is Ever-living and never dies,

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

(please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِيَ ٱلذُّنُوبَ ٱلَّتِي بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ

wa ghfir liya dh-dhunūba llatī baynī wa baynak

forgive my sins that I have committed between You and me,

وَلاَ تَفْضَحْنِي عَلَىٰ رُؤُوسِ ٱلاشْهَادِ

wa lā tafḍaḥnī ʿalā ruʾūsi l-ashhād

do not expose me in the presence of the witnesses,

وَٱحْرُسْنِي بِعَيْنِكَ ٱلَّتِي لاَ تَنَامُ

wa ḥrusnī bi-ʿaynika llatī lā tanām

guard me with Your Eye that never sleeps,

وَٱرْحَمْنِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيَّ

wa rḥamnī bi-qudratika ʿalayy

and have mercy upon me as You have full power over me.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

وَصَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ

wa ṣallā llāhu ʿalā sayyidinā muḥammad

May Allah send blessings upon our master Muhammad

وَآلِهِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ يَا رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

wa ālihi ṭ-ṭāhirīna yā rabba l-ʿālamīn

and upon his Immaculate Household. O Lord of the worlds!

يَا مَنْ هُوَ اقْرَبُ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ

yā man huwa aqrabu ilayya min ḥabli l-warīd

O He Who is nearer to me than my life-vein!

يَا فَعَّالاً لِمَا يُرِيدُ

yā faʿʿālan limā yurīd

O He Who does whatever He wills!

يَا مَنْ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ ٱلْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ

yā man yaḥūlu bayna l-marʾi wa qalbih

O He Who intervenes between man and his heart!

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ

ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālih

(Please do) send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household

وَحُلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ مَنْ يُؤْذِينَا

wa ḥul baynanā wa bayna man yuʾdhīnā

and intervene between us and those who intend harm to us,

بِحَوْلِكَ وَقُوَّتِكَ

bi-ḥawlika wa quwwatik

in the name of Your might and power.

يَا كَافِياً مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

yā kāfiyan min kulli shayʾ

O He Who saves from all things

وَلاَ يَكْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ

wa lā yakfī minhu shayʾ

and nothing can ever save from Him!

ٱكْفِنَا ٱلْمُهِمَّ مِنْ امْرِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

ikfina l-muhimma min amri d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah

(Please do) relieve us from whatever aggrieves us from our worldly and religious affairs.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اسْالُكَ يَا مَنْ لاَ تَرَاهُ ٱلْعُيُونُ

allāhumma innī asʾaluka yā man lā tarāhu l-ʿuyūn

O Allah, I beseech You, O He Whom cannot be seen by eyes,

وَلاَ تُحِيطُ بِهِ ٱلظُّنُونُ

wa lā tuḥīṭu bihi ẓ-ẓunūn

Whom cannot be comprehended by visions,

وَلاَ يَصِفُهُ ٱلْوَاصِفُونَ

wa lā yaṣifuhu l-wāṣifūn

Whom cannot be described by all those who describe Him,

وَلاَ تُغَيِّرُهُ ٱلْحَوَادِثُ

wa lā tughayyiruhu l-ḥawādith

Whom cannot be affected by events,

وَلاَ تُفْنِيهِ ٱلدُّهُورُ

wa lā tufnīhi d-duhūr

and Whom cannot be obliterated due to passage of ages!

تَعْلَمُ مَثَاقِيلَ ٱلْجِبَالِ

taʿlamu mathāqīla l-jibāl

You know the measures of mountains,

وَمَكَايِيلَ ٱلْبِحَارِ

wa makāyīla l-biḥār

the amounts (of water) of oceans,

وَوَرَقَ ٱلاشْجَارِ

wa waraqa l-ashjār

the number of the trees’ leaves,

وَرَمْلَ ٱلْقِفَارِ

wa ramla l-qifār

the sands of deserts,

وَمَا اضَاءَتْ بِهِ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ

wa mā aḍāʾat bihi sh-shamsu wa l-qamar

whatever is under the sunlight and moonlight,

وَاظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِ ٱللَّيْلُ

wa aẓlama ʿalayhi llayl

whatever is under darkness of night,

وَوَضَحَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّهَارُ

wa waḍaḥa ʿalayhi n-nahār

and whatever is shown by daylight.

وَلاَ تُوَارِي مِنْكَ سَمَاءٌ سَمَاءً

wa lā tuwārī minka samāʾun samāʾā

No sky can screen another sky from You,

وَلاَ ارْضٌ ارْضاً

wa lā arḍun arḍā

no layer of the earth can screen another layer from You,

وَلاَ جَبَلٌ مَا فِي اصْلِهِ

wa lā jabalun mā fī aṣlih

no mountain can screen its other parts from You,

وَلاَ بَحْرٌ مَا فِي قَعْرِهِ

wa lā baḥrun mā fī qaʿrih

and no ocean can screen its depths from You.

اسْالُكَ انْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

asʾaluka an tuṣalliya ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

I thus beseech You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَانْ تَجْعَلَ خَيْرَ امْرِي آخِرَهُ

wa an tajʿala khayra amrī ākhirah

to cause the best of my affair to be the conclusion of it,

وَخَيْرَ اعْمَالِي خَوَاتِيمَهَا

wa khayra aʿmālī khawātīmahā

to cause the best of my deeds to be the last of them,

وَخَيْرَ ايَّامِي يَوْمَ الْقَاكَ

wa khayra ayyāmī yawma alqāk

and to cause the best of my days to be the day when I meet You,

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

for You verily have power over all things.

اَللَّهُمَّ مَنْ ارَادَنِي بِسُوءٍ فَارِدْهُ

allāhumma man arādanī bi-sūʾin fa-arid-hu

O Allah, (please do) deter all those who intend evil to me,

وَمَنْ كَادَنِي فَكِدْهُ

wa man kādanī fa-kid-hu

encumber all those who plan to do evil to me,

وَمَنْ بَغَانِي بِهَلَكَةٍ فَاهْلِكْهُ

wa man baghānī bi-halakatin fa-ahlik-hu

terminate all those who is set to terminate me,

وَٱكْفِنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي مِمَّنْ دَخَلَ هَمُّهُ عَلَيَّ

wa kfinī mā ahammanī mimman dakhala hammuhu ʿalayy

and save me from all that which aggrieves me at the hands of those who intend grief to me.

اَللَّهُمَّ ادْخِلْنِي فِي دِرْعِكَ ٱلْحَصِينَةِ

allāhumma adkhilnī fī dirʿika l-ḥaṣīnah

O Allah, (please do) include me with Your impervious armor

وَٱسْتُرْنِي بِسِتْرِكَ ٱلْوَاقِي

wa sturnī bi-sitrika l-wāqī

and cover me with Your protective shield.

يَا مَنْ يَكْفِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

yā man yakfī min kulli shayʾ

O He Who saves from all things

وَلاَ يَكْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ

wa lā yakfī minhu shayʾ

and nothing can ever save from You,

إِكْفِنِي مَا اهَمَّنِي مِنْ امْرِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

ikfinī mā ahammanī min amri d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah

(please) relieve me from whatever has aggrieved me from the affairs of this world and the world to come

وَصَدِّقْ قَوْلِي وَفِعْلِي

wa ṣaddiq qawlī wa fiʿlī

and cause my words to be corresponding with my deeds.

يَا شَفِيقُ يَا رَفِيقُ

yā shafīqu yā rafīq

O All-sympathetic! O All-kind!

فَرِّجْ عَنِّيَ ٱلْمَضِيقَ

farrij ʿanniya l-maḍīq

(please) relieve me from depression

وَلاَ تُحَمِّلْنِي مَا لاَ اطِيقُ

wa lā tuḥammilnī mā lā aṭīq

and do not burden on me that which I cannot stand.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱحْرُسْنِي بِعَيْنِكَ ٱلَّتِي لاَ تَنَامُ

allāhumma ḥrusnī bi-ʿaynika llatī lā tanām

O Allah, (please) guard me with Your Eye that never sleeps

وَٱرْحَمْنِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيَّ

wa rḥamnī bi-qudratika ʿalayy

and have mercy upon me in the name of Your power over me.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy!

يَا عَلِيُّ يَا عَظِيمُ

yā ʿaliyyu yā ʿaẓīm

O All-high! O All-great!

انْتَ عَالِمٌ بِحَاجَتِي

anta ʿālimun bi-ḥājatī

You know what I need

وَعَلَىٰ قَضَائِهَا قَدِيرٌ

wa ʿalā qaḍāʾihā qadīr

and You have the power to grant it to me,

وَهِيَ لَدَيْكَ يَسِيرٌ

wa hiya ladayka yasīr

which is an easy thing to be done by You

وَانَا إِلَيْكَ فَقِيرٌ

wa anā ilayka faqīr

and I do want You;

فَمُنَّ بِهَا عَلَيَّ يَا كَرِيمُ

fa-munna bihā ʿalayya yā karīm

so, (please) do me the favor of settling my need, O All-merciful!

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr

Verily, You have power over all things.

إِلٰهِي قَدْ عَلِمْتَ حَوَائِجِي

ilāhī qad ʿalimta ḥawāʾijī

O my God, You have known my needs;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَٱقْضِهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammadin wa qḍihā

so, please send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad and settle my needs.

وَقَدْ احْصَيْتَ ذُنُوبِي

wa qad aḥṣayta dhunūbī

You have accounted all my sins;

فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ وَٱغْفِرْهَا

fa-ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihi wa ghfirhā

so, please send blessings upon Muhammad and his Household and forgive them,

يَا كَرِيمُ

yā karīm

O All-generous!

سَلاَمُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَامِلُ ٱلتَّامُّ

salāmu llāhi l-kāmilu t-tāmm

Peace of Allah – perfect, complete,

ٱلشَّامِلُ ٱلْعَامُّ

ash-shāmilu l-ʿāmm

comprehensive, and thorough;

وَصَلَوَاتُهُ ٱلدَّائِمَةُ

wa ṣalawātuhu d-dāʾimah

and His endless benedictions

وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ٱلْقَائِمَةُ ٱلتَّامَّةُ

wa barakātuhu l-qāʾimatu t-tāmmah

and His everlasting, perfect blessings

عَلَىٰ حُجَّةِ ٱللَّهِ

ʿalā ḥujjati llāh

be upon the Argument of Allah,

وَوَلِيِّهِ فِي ارْضِهِ وَبِلادِهِ

wa waliyyihi fī arḍihi wa bilādih

His representative in His lands and realm,

وَخَلِيفَتِهِ عَلَىٰ خَلْقِهِ وَعِبَادِهِ

wa khalīfatihi ʿalā khalqihi wa ʿibādih

His viceroy among His creatures and servants,

وَسُلالَةِ ٱلنُّبُوَّةِ

wa sulālati n-nubuwwah

the offspring of Prophethood,

وَبَقِيَّةِ ٱلْعِتْرَةِ وَٱلصَّفْوَةِ

wa baqiyyati l-ʿitrati wa ṣ-ṣafwah

the completion of the (Holy) Progeny and the Choice Ones,

صَاحِبِ ٱلزَّمَانِ

ṣāḥibi z-zamān

the Patron of the Age,

وَمُظْهِرِ ٱلإِيمَانِ

wa muẓhiri l-īmān

the demonstrator of the (true) faith,

وَمُلَقِّنِ احْكَامِ ٱلْقُرْآنِ

wa mulaqqini aḥkāmi l-qurʾān

the teacher of the laws of the Qur’an,

وَمُطَهِّرِ ٱلارْضِ

wa muṭahhiri l-arḍ

the purger of the earth,

وَنَاشِرِ ٱلْعَدْلِ فِي ٱلطُّولِ وَٱلْعَرْضِ

wa nāshiri l-ʿadli fi ṭ-ṭūli wa l-ʿarḍ

the spreader of justice all over the earth,

وَٱلْحُجَّةِ ٱلْقَائِمِ ٱلْمَهْدِيِّ

wa l-ḥujjati l-qāʾimi l-mahdiyy

the Argument (al-Hujjah), the Riser (al-Qa’im), the Well-guided (al-Mahdi),

ٱلإِمَامِ ٱلْمُنْتَظَرِ ٱلْمَرْضِيِّ

al-imāmi l-muntaẓari l-marḍiyy

the Leader, the Awaited, the Pleased,

وَٱبْنِ ٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ

wa bni l-aʾimmati ṭ-ṭāhirīn

the descendant of the Infallible Imams,

ٱلْوَصِيِّ ٱبْنِ ٱلاوْصِيَاءِ ٱلْمَرْضِيِّينَ

al-waṣiyyi bni l-awṣiyāʾi l-marḍiyyīn

the Successor, the son of the Pleased Successors (of the Prophets),

ٱلْهَادِي ٱلْمَعْصُومِ

al-hādi l-maʿṣūm

the Guide, the Immaculate,

ٱبْنِ ٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلْهُدَاةِ ٱلْمَعْصُومِينَ

ibni l-aʾimmati l-hudāti l-maʿṣūmīn

and the son of the Imams – the guides and immaculate.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُعِزَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalayka yā muʿizza l-muʾminīna l-mustaḍʿafīn

Peace be upon you, O grantor of dignity to the oppressed and faithful ones.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُذِلَّ ٱلْكَافِرِينَ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalayka yā mudhilla l-kāfirīna l-mutakabbirīna ẓ-ẓālimīn

Peace be upon you, O humiliator of the arrogant and oppressing unbelievers.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلايَ يَا صَاحِبَ ٱلزَّمَانِ

as-salāmu ʿalayka yā mawlāya yā ṣāḥiba z-zamān

Peace be upon you, O my master, the Patron of the Age.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

as-salāmu ʿalayka ya bna rasūli llāh

Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalayka ya bna amīri l-muʾminīn

Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Believers.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ فَاطِمَةَ ٱلزَّهْرَاءِ

as-salāmu ʿalayka ya bna fāṭimata z-zahrāʾ

Peace be upon you, O son of Fatimah the Luminous

سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

sayyidati nisāʾi l-ʿālamīn

and the Doyenne of the women of the world.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ ٱلائِمَّةِ ٱلْحُجَجِ ٱلْمَعْصُومِينَ

as-salāmu ʿalayka ya bna l-aʾimmati l-ḥujaji l-maʿṣūmīn

Peace be upon you, O son of the Imams – the arguments (of Allah) and Immaculate

وَٱلإِمَامُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْخَلْقِ اجْمَعِينَ

wa l-imāmu ʿala l-khalqi ajmaʿīn

and the leader of all creatures.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلايَ

as-salāmu ʿalayka yā mawlāy

Peace be upon you, O my master

سَلامَ مُخْلِصٍ لَكَ فِي ٱلْوِلايَةِ

salāma mukhliṣin laka fi l-wilāyah

addressed by him who is loyal to your (divinely commissioned) leadership.

اشْهَدُ انَّكَ ٱلإِمَامُ ٱلْمَهْدِيُّ قَوْلاً وَفِعْلاً

ashhadu annaka l-imāmu l-mahdiyyu qawlan wa fiʿlā

I bear witness that you are the well-guided Imam in word and deed,

وَانْتَ ٱلَّذِي تَمْلَا ٱلارْضَ قِسْطاً وَعَدْلاً

wa anta lladhī tamlaʾu l-arḍa qisṭan wa ʿadlā

it is you who shall fill the earth with justice and impartiality

بَعْدَ مَا مُلِئَتْ ظُلْماً وَجَوْراً

baʿda mā muliʾat ẓulman wa jawrā

after it will be filled with wrong and partiality.

فَعَجَّلَ ٱللَّهُ فَرَجَكَ

fa-ʿajjala llāhu farajak

So, may Allah hasten your reappearance,

وَسَهَّلَ مَخْرَجَكَ

wa sahhala makhrajak

make easy your advent,

وَقَرَّبَ زَمَانَكَ

wa qarraba zamānak

make nearer the time of your coming,

وَكَثَّرَ انْصَارَكَ وَاعْوَانَكَ

wa kaththara anṣāraka wa aʿwānak

increase the number of your supporters and backers,

وَانْجَزَ لَكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ

wa anjaza laka mā waʿadak

and fulfill for you all that which He has promised you.

فَهُوَ اصْدَقُ ٱلْقَائِلِينَ

fa-huwa aṣdaqu l-qāʾilīn

He is surely the most truthful of all those who can speak (and He has said):

(وَنُرِيدُ انْ نَمُنَّ عَلَىٰ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا فِي ٱلارْضِ

wa nurīdu an namunna ʿala lladhīna stuḍʿifū fi l-arḍ

“We desired to bestow a favor upon those who were deemed weak in the land,

وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ ائِمَّةً وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ ٱلْوَارِثِينَ)

wa najʿalahum aʾimmatan wa najʿalahumu l-wārithīn

make them the Imams, and make them the heirs.”

يَا مَوْلايَ يَا صَاحِبَ ٱلزَّمَانِ

yā mawlāya yā ṣāḥiba z-zamān

O my master! O Patron of the Age!

يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

ya bna rasūli llāh

O son of Allah’s Messenger!

حَاجَتِي…

ḥājatī…

My request is…

فَٱشْفَعْ لِي فِي نَجَاحِهَا

fa-shfaʿ lī fī najāḥihā

So, intercede for me so that it will be settled,

فَقَدْ تَوَجَّهْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِحَاجَتِي

fa-qad tawajjahtu ilayka bi-ḥājatī

for I am turning my face towards you for settling my request,

لِعِلْمِي انَّ لَكَ عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ شَفَاعَةً مَقْبُولَةً

li-ʿilmī anna laka ʿinda llāhi shafāʿatan maqbūlah

since I know for sure that you enjoy with Allah admissible word of intercession,

وَمَقَاماً مَحْمُوداً

wa maqāman maḥmūdā

and praiseworthy standing.

فَبِحَقِّ مَنِ ٱخْتَصَّكُمْ بِامْرِهِ

fa-bi-ḥaqqi mani khtaṣṣakum bi-amrih

So, I ask you in the name of Him Who granted you (i.e. the Ahl al-Bayt) exclusively the right of representing Him,

وَٱرْتَضَاكُمْ لِسِرِّهِ

wa rtaḍākum li-sirrih

and admitted you all to keep His secrets,

وَبِٱلشَّانِ ٱلَّذِي لَكُمْ عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ

wa bi-sh-shaʾni lladhī lakum ʿinda llāhi baynakum wa baynah

and I ask you in the name of the standing that you exclusively enjoy with Allah,

سَلِ ٱللَّهَ تَعَالَىٰ فِي نُجْحِ طَلِبَتِي

sali llāha taʿālā fī nujḥi ṭalibatī

to ask Allah, the Exalted, to render successful my request,

وَإِجَابَةِ دَعْوَتِي وَكَشْفِ كُرْبَتِي

wa ijābati daʿwatī wa kashfi kurbatī

to answer my prayer, and to relieve my grief.

إِلٰهِي قَدْ مَدَّ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْخَاطِئُ ٱلْمُذْنِبُ يَدَيْهِ بِحُسْنِ ظَنِّهِ بِكَ

ilāhī qad madda ilayka l-khāṭiʾu l-mudhnibu yadayhi bi-ḥusni ẓannihi bik

O my God, I, the wrongdoer and sinful, am extending my hands to You, on account of the good opinion that I carry about You.

إِلٰهِي قَدْ جَلَسَ ٱلْمُسِيءُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ مُقِرّاً لَكَ بِسُوءِ عَمَلِهِ

ilāhī qad jalasa l-musīʾu bayna yadayka muqirran laka bi-sūʾi ʿamalih

O my God, I, the evildoer, am sitting before You, confessing to You of my ill deeds

وَرَاجِياً مِنْكَ ٱلصَّفْحَ عَنْ زَلَلِهِ

wa rājiyan minka ṣ-ṣafḥa ʿan zalalih

and hoping for You to overlook my faults.

إِلٰهِي قَدْ رَفَعَ إِلَيْكَ ٱلظَّالِمُ كَفَّيْهِ رَاجِياً لِمَا لَدَيْكَ

ilāhī qad rafaʿa ilayka ẓ-ẓālimu kaffayhi rājiyan limā ladayk

O my God, I, the unjust, am raising my hands in the hope of attaining that which You have in possession;

فَلا تُخَيِّبْهُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

fa-lā tukhayyibhu bi-raḥmatika min faḍlik

so, do not deprive me of Your favors, out of Your mercy.

إِلٰهِي قَدْ جَثَا ٱلْعَائِدُ إِلَىٰ ٱلْمَعَاصِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

ilāhī qad jatha l-ʿāʾidu ila l-maʿāṣī bayna yadayk

O my God, I, the reverter to disobedience, am kneeling before You,

خَائِفاً مِنْ يَوْمٍ تَجْثُو فِيهِ ٱلْخَلاَئِقُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

khāʾifan min yawmin tajthū fīhi l-khalāʾiqu bayna yadayk

for I fear the day on which all created beings shall kneel before You.

إِلٰهِي جَاءَكَ ٱلْعَبْدُ ٱلْخَاطِئُ فَزِعاً مُشْفِقاً

ilāhī jāʾaka l-ʿabdu l-khāṭiʾu faziʿan mushfiqā

O my God, I, the faulty servant, am coming to You with panic and fear,

وَرَفَعَ إِلَيْكَ طَرْفَهُ حَذِراً رَاجِياً

wa rafaʿa ilayka ṭarfahu ḥadhiran rājiyā

raising my sight to You with caution and hope,

وَفَاضَتْ عَبْرَتُهُ مُسْتَغْفِراً نَادِماً

wa fāḍat ʿabratuhu mustaghfiran nādimā

shedding tears, seeking forgiveness, and showing regret.

وَعِزَّتِكَ وَجَلالِكَ مَا ارَدْتُ بِمَعْصِيَتِي مُخَالَفَتَكَ

wa ʿizzatika wa jalālika mā aradtu bi-maʿṣiyatī mukhālafatak

By Your Might and Majesty I swear! When I disobeyed You, I have not intended to violate You

وَمَا عَصَيْتُكَ إِذْ عَصَيْتُكَ وَانَا بِكَ جَاهِلٌ

wa mā ʿaṣaytuka idh ʿaṣaytuka wa anā bika jāhil

and when I disobeyed You, I have never been unaware of You

وَلاَ لِعُقُوبَتِكَ مُتَعَرِّضٌ

wa lā li-ʿuqūbatika mutaʿarriḍ

I have never intended to expose myself to Your punishment,

وَلاَ لِنَظَرِكَ مُسْتَخِفٌّ

wa lā li-naẓarika mustakhiff

and I have never belittled Your watching over me;

وَلكِنْ سَوَّلَتْ لِي نَفْسِي

wa lākin sawwalat lī nafsī

rather, my soul has commended to me,

وَاعَانَتْنِي عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ شِقْوَتِي

wa aʿānatnī ʿalā dhālika shiqwatī

my adversity has overcome me,

وَغَرَّنِي سِتْرُكَ ٱلْمُرْخَىٰ عَلَيَّ

wa gharranī sitruka l-murkhā ʿalayy

and I was deceived by Your screen that covers all my defects.

فَمِنَ ٱلآنَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ مَنْ يَسْتَنْقِذُنِي

fa-mina l-āna min ʿadhābika man yastanqidhunī

Now, who can save me from Your punishment ?

وَبِحَبْلِ مَنْ اعْتَصِمُ إِنْ قَطَعْتَ حَبْلَكَ عَنِّي

wa bi-ḥabli man aʿtaṣimu in qaṭaʿta ḥablaka ʿannī

Whose rope can I maintain if You cut the rope that connects me with You ?

فَيَا سَوْاتَاهُ غَداً مِنَ ٱلْوُقُوفِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

fa-yā sawʾatāhu ghadan mina l-wuqūfi bayna yadayk

What a shame shall be on me tomorrow when I will be detained before You

إِذَا قِيلَ لِلْمُخِفِّينَ جُوزُوٱ

idhā qīla li-l-mukhiffīna jūzū

when the light-loaded ones will be allowed to pass,

ولِلْمُثْقِلِينَ حُطُّوٱ

wa li-l-muthqilīna ḥuṭṭū

but the heavy-loaded ones will be stopped ?

افَمَعَ ٱلْمُخِفِّينَ اجُوزُ امْ مَعَ ٱلْمُثْقِلِينَ احُطُّ

afamaʿa l-mukhiffīna ajūzu am maʿa l-muthqilīna aḥuṭṭ

Shall I pass with the light-loaded ones or shall I be stopped with the heavy-loaded ones ?

وَيْلِي كُلَّمَا كَبُرَ سِنِّي كَثُرَتْ ذُنُوبِي!

waylī kullamā kabura sinnī kathurat dhunūbī

Woe to me! The older I am the more sinful I become!

وَيْلِي كُلَّمَا طَالَ عُمْرِي كَثُرَتْ مَعَاصِيِّي!

waylī kullamā ṭāla ʿumrī kathurat maʿāṣiyyī

Woe to me! The more aged I am the more disobedient I become!

فَكَمْ اتُوبُ

fa-kam atūb

So often have I declared repentance!

وَكَمْ اعُودُ

wa kam aʿūd

And so often have I returned to committing acts of disobedience!

امَا آنَ لِي انْ اسْتَحْيِيَ مِنْ رَبِّي

amā āna lī an astaḥyiya min rabbī

Has not the time come that I be ashamed of my Lord?

اَللَّهُمَّ فَبِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allāhumma fa-bi-ḥaqqi muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad

O Allah, (I beg You) in the name of Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

إِغْفِرْ لِي وَٱرْحَمْنِي

ighfir lī wa rḥamnī

please, forgive me and have mercy upon me.

يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ وَخَيْرَ ٱلْغَافِرِينَ

yā arḥama r-rāḥimīna wa khayra l-ghāfirīn

O most merciful of all those who show mercy and most excellent forgiver of all those who forgive!

إِرْحَمْ مَنْ اسَاءَ وَٱقْتَرَفَ

irḥam man asāʾa wa qtaraf

(Please) have mercy upon him who had misbehaved and committed sins,

وَٱسْتَكَانَ وَٱعْتَرَفَ

wa stakāna wa ʿtaraf

but he then submitted and confessed.

إِنْ كُنْتُ بِئْسَ ٱلْعَبْدُ

in kuntu biʾsa l-ʿabd

If I am the worst servant (of You),

فَانْتَ نِعْمَ ٱلرَّبُّ

fa-anta niʿma r-rabb

then You are the All-excellent Lord.

عَظُمَ ٱلذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ

ʿaẓuma dh-dhanbu min ʿabdik

Your servant’s sin has been very flagrant,

فَلْيَحْسُنِ ٱلْعَفْوُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ

fa-l-yaḥsuni l-ʿafwu min ʿindik

then let Your pardon be very excellent,

يَا كَرِيمُ

yā karīm

O All-generous!

الْعَفْوَ ٱلْعَفْوَ

al-ʿafwa l-ʿafw

Pardon! Pardon!
